Having holt and charlotte as well as bringing back the dr’s family made this much more fun than the last book. This one also had much better direction and story than the last one. Very fun and enjoyable listen

I don’t remember how i found this series but I’m glad I did. It’s a pleasure to listen to, with an outstanding narrator with a calm, soothing voice. The mysteries are not deep but enjoyable and I generally know everything is going to workout, which is a nice break from darker stories. I usually listen when gardening and love the history and period I don’t know a lot about. Definitely worth a listen !

I love Roger Clark as a narrator which is why I listened to this book but in terms of story of progression, this tale is really lacking. There’s basically zero character development and everyone is so one dimensional that there’s really no investment. The plot of the first book is exactly the same as the second—“go do a wild mission in order to get your sister back but then oh you’ve solved my mission! Now I’m upping the stakes and you still don’t have your sister !”

There’s really no nuance to anyone. There’s obviously evil people which we don’t have to feel bad about Van killing because they’re evil, and he doesn’t require too much introspection because he only has one plot point, which is to find his sister that an established untrustworthy character says she has without proof. All the murder that’s required between A and B are justified although so far, the ends do not justify the means. Secondary characters and Allies are introduced but never really developed beyond surface level.

I do love Roger Clark and he provides the only redeeming quality to this otherwise slog fest. However, I can’t really recommend this book.

Couldn’t get through the first ten minutes. I’ve been very excited for this book but o guess I’ll be reading. This is one of the worst narrators I’ve ever heard
