Historia
"I was one of 28 children born to my dad and his three wives. Indoctrinated to believe that the outside world was evil, and that I resided among the righteous, I was destined to marry a man chosen for me by the Prophet. I would then live in harmony with my sister-wives, bear many children, and obey and serve my future husband in this life and throughout eternity. But my innocence didn't last long." Flora goes on from there to tell the dramatic true story of how she ultimately escaped and has been rescuing women and children from the FLDS.

Eye opening.
Revisado: 10-19-24
The story is every eye opening. I remember a lot of this as it happened. I still don’t understand how the government agencies who are suppose to protect children continue to fail so miserably.
I thought some is the details of the abuse could have been told differently. It was a little graphic and explicit for my taste.

Such a sad story
Revisado: 09-27-24
I have never been a foster parent. It is heart breaking that mental health services are so difficult to obtain in the UK. This child needed help from the minute she entered care. Again I have never been a foster parent, but I can’t help but wonder if Sparkle’s behavior would have been challenged earlier if the home would not have become so hostile. It is shocking to me there is not a mental health facility she could not have taken to for emergency services. In the area of America I live in, which is considered by many to be one of the poorest states (Mississippi) all of our Emergency Rooms have services for mental health issues.
I hope the grandparents did provide Sparkle the support and love she/they needed.

Officers from the RSPCA investigate reports of animal cruelty and neglect on a farm, only to discover a 5-year-old boy curled up asleep in a dog bed, amidst filth and squalor. He has severe physical and cognitive impairments, and no one outside the family seems to know of the existence of little Jacob. When he arrives in the Allen household, a terrified Louise wonders how on earth she will cope looking after a child with his level of physical and emotional damage. With the support of veteran social worker, Mary, the fight begins to get Jacob the support he needs.

Heartbreaking story
Revisado: 09-14-24
I have listened to several of the books in the series. It was a little different having a male preformed. And I am still a little confused on how they figured out the maternity of Jacob. I have cared for several children with this disability and most have lived good lives. My mother in law is 72 and has this issue. So not all hope it lost because of this type diagnosis.

Beautiful outcome
Revisado: 09-11-24
These book make me very curious about the social systems in the UK. It is terrible a country of their statue and wealth seems to not provide needed services to its youngest most vulnerable people, the children. I know this is an issue in America, I guess I am just shocked to know it happens there too.
Perhaps the royal family should be required to be foster care providers.

Absolutely amazing.
Revisado: 09-09-24
While the stories are sad, they need to be told. I so appreciate that someone is willing to tell the stories.
The narrator does such a wonderful job.
I am a social worker, in America. Because of the difficulties and deficiencies with child protective service, I have refused to even look into that line of work. I am grateful for the people who do and for the families who provide support for the children in care.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 09-04-24
Can’t say I disliked this performance. I was expecting a book, not a performance. At times it was difficult to determine which female part was being playing bc the women sounded so much alike.
Once I started listening I had to finish bc I was very interested to hear how the story played out.
The plot twist was well written, but the dramatization where not as polished as I would have liked.

You just never know what some people endure
Revisado: 09-03-24
The performance was wonderful. The story line was so sad but also inspiring to see how people can make something of themselves despite their difficulties.
It is sad no family members came to the rescue of those children and the court system didn’t do more to the mother. Makes me wonder about the social systems in the UK.

Historia
Ever since I met my handsome husband Dr Gabe Bonneville, I started playing the role of the perfect housewife. He works hard as a surgeon, so I look after our home, and throw elaborate dinner parties with champagne cocktails for his best friends Hugh and Anita. He’s my safe place and my chance to have the family I’ve always wanted. I’ve managed to hide the mornings when I wake up and see a face in the shadows. I haven’t told Gabe the truth about the woman who raised me, or told him about the therapy I’ve been getting so my secrets stay hidden in the dark.

A little far fetched.
Revisado: 09-01-24
I love the writing. I always enjoy the performance. The reader of this book and all the Det Riley books always does an amazing job.
The story line of this book was a little to far fetched for me. The writing is divine and keeps my interest, but the over all story line was not my favorite.
I am sad I don’t have another Det Riley story to dive into.

Nice plot twist although it was not as surprising as some of the other books. The confession i. The letter I never saw coming. The surprise at the end was a nice touch.
