Maybe better than the first three!
Revisado: 02-08-18
I have listened to all four Titus Ray books. In each one Titus seems to become a little more human and a real person. Maybe the change in narrator helps make that seem true as well. He is very natural sounding and you feel like you really are listening to Titus tell the story.
I am not sure how much of the story, especially the early chapters, would make sense to someone that hasn't read or listened to the earlier ones. Since I liked them all I would recommend you do just that, start with number 1.
Looking forward to number 5.

Interesting but a little long winded
Revisado: 01-12-17
The basic idea is a very good one. Nice SF without getting into anything supernatural. To me plausible.
My only complaint is the pace. Obviously the good parts of this story will come in later books. As an introduction to the series this is much longer than it needs to be. Unfortunately with an audiobook you can't just skim over meaningless detail.
The narrator I thought did a good job trying to keep it interesting and gave some of the cardbooard like characters a real personality. Without him I am not sure I would have hung in there. I will definitely be looking for the next title in the series as the action should start to really pickup it seems. Now that we have a Ship let's see what happens.

Campy PI holds your interest
Revisado: 10-19-16
This is a little step down from number 1 I think. Still a good book, but has at least one annoying flaw for me.
Seems like every fictional PI says at least once in every book that they don't believe in coincidences. For some reason the ending of this book is wrapped around the biggest coincidence of all. Totally unbelievable. I don't want to give a spoiler, but really? Where was Millie? Really took away from my overall opinion of the story.
While set in 1980 the narrator has more of a 1960 sound, but I liked it a lot. He made Damien a nice guy I would want to find out more about in the future. He sounds just like I imagine Damien. Maybe not the most sophisticated PI you have ever met, but he kind of plods along and gets to where he needs to be.

One of the best.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I had read the book and am a big fan of Damien's so I knew the plot. Still, the audiobook adds more understanding..

Millie's appearance at Gus' office.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It has a nice thread of humor throughout.

A Truly Amazing Man!
Revisado: 04-06-16
What made the experience of listening to Fighting the Cold War: A Soldier's Memoir the most enjoyable?
General Galvin was so widely experienced; Cartoonist, Professor, scholar, writer, General and most of all astute diplomat. A fascinating look at all the major issues that faced the US during the cold war with a real insiders point of view. While only one of the many topics covered, it makes the reader truly appreciate how Reagan and Gobechov produced results most said were impossible and that are today little understood or appreciated.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fighting the Cold War: A Soldier's Memoir?
The General's two tours in Vietnam.
Any additional comments?
This audiobook is like sitting around a fire and listening to a truly fascinating man reminisce about a remarkable career. Both the writer and the narrator seem to deliberately present it as almost matter of fact, which it certainly is not. That humble, homespun storytelling style greatly adds to my level of respect and admiration for a truly unique and great American. The narration seems to present the information exactly in the almost low key way I believe the General would want it presented and fits the book perfectly.

Historia
The best men I've known have been cowmen. There's a code they live by - it's their way of life. It starts with an abiding reverence for the good Lord. They're taught to honor and respect their parents and to share both blanket and bread. Their words are their bond, a handshake their contract. They're good stewards of his creation, the land. They believe the words in his book.

Wonderful Family History
Revisado: 03-20-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Louisiana Wind to be better than the print version?
Definitely, the mood and tone were very realistic
What did you like best about this story?
These all seemed like real tales. Read more like a memoir of a great man, not a novel.
What about Tom Lennon’s performance did you like?
I can imagine this is actually what they sounded like. Slow and laid back as befitting the time and local.
Any additional comments?
Great little book as a follow up to Three Winds Blowing and even 12 Years a Slave.

What did you like best about this story?
I liked the kids. Horrible father. Repressed development, yet still basically good kids. Nice!
Which scene was your favorite?
Showdown at the cave
Any additional comments?
Very well written. The author is an ex-US Marshal and the entire book comes across as very credible I am sure because of his experiences. I like the narrator as well. Really scary voice when it needs to be.

I am hooked on Harry Starke
Revisado: 03-11-16
What did you love best about Hill House?
This is the third Harry Starke Novel I have listened to. Harry is consistent, yet does evolve in each subsequent book. He is more real life, a little less Sexy, carefree and cavalier, but a better person in each new book.
As usual the plot present by the author was a good one. You will not figure it all out before the dramatic ending. There are plenty of bad guys, enough violence, tasteful kind of off camera sex and great dialogue. Everything a good Detective mystery should have.
I love this series and will be waiting patently for number 4 to come out.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hill House?
The show down in the bar is a classic of its type.
Which scene was your favorite?
Have to be Sal's demise.
Any additional comments?
This formula is working. The narrator is Harry Starke and I look forward to meeting both of them again very soon.

A Novel that reads like History
Revisado: 03-11-16
Just as I was wondering how the author was going to fill all these hours with just additional bombing runs - the entire book changes. While the first half is very good, the second half which takes place in German Occupied territory is both exciting and very fascinating.A look at the lives of non-combatants I have never seen before.
The narration was excellent in that very quickly I just paid no attention to it at all. I was listening to the characters and the author, not a narrator.

Great Series!
Revisado: 02-18-16
If you could sum up Harry Starke in three words, what would they be?
Smart, Sexy, tough
Who was your favorite character and why?
Harry is a lovable rouge so if you don't like him, you will hate the book. He is a throwback type PI to novels of maybe 30 or 40 years ago. Women's lib types need a sense of humor here as he really is pretty harmless. The funny little bar owner that appears a few times is lovable in a Louie D'Palma kind of way as well.
What does Tom Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He reminds you this is Chattanooga, not LA, Chicago, or NY. Laid back with a pleasant Southern twang that you normally don't hear in a PI mystery.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Harry's dialogue with the deceased's father.
Any additional comments?
I listened to book #2 first and liked it so much I had to go back and buy #1. I actually think number 2 is slightly better plot wise, but nice to now understand the back story. Looking forward to the next release in the series.
