Good premise but ordinary writing

It was a very good premise and the way the protagonist could use her talent was quite remarkable.

Having said that, the writing lacked pizzazz. I wasn’t carried away and had a hard time finishing this book. I told myself this was one book in a series and it did get better at the end, but it should capture the reader early on and not let go. There was only one plot line, I noticed, and the best novels have multiple things going on at once. The very best have plot lines that seem to be unrelated but that come together at the end. This book didn’t have that.

Well written novel. Kept me on my toes.

This was so well written it might be my favorite book in a very long time. I read about 3 books a month and more in the summertime when I can go outdoors. The surprises were timed very well. Just when I thought I knew what would happen next, something different happened. A joy to read.

Though I knew who did it when they first introduced the character, it was very well written and kept my attention. I loved the reader as well as the writing. They say that books are either character driven or plot driven, but this is well-balanced. It was just the right length. Everything about it was flawless. I have nothing bad to say.

Somewhat sappy

I didn't like the reader. All the men sounded exactly the same and the girls were short, meaning the reader said the ends of sentences too fast. They sounded angry all the time. I only liked the voice of Kelsey. It was hard to like anyone else.

Story wise, the male characters were condescending to women and the love story was based on shallow things. The author knew a little something about the law though. Which was a plus. I guess this storyline wasn't for me. I'll stick to the thrillers I usually read.

No Plot. Flat.

There wasn't a plot so I was disappointed. There were no highs and lows either. It was character driven but I didn't like any of the characters. The reader was supposed to like Rachel and Jake but I found them boring. I held on through the end but found this book drab. There was too much explaining and not enough conversation. Don't read it unless you like the F word and violent behavior.

The novel spent too much time on details. Diana Gabaldon is a great writer and Davina Porter is a great narrator. I gave the performance full marks and the story only four stars based on the length.

Kept thinking a vampire was narrating

The idea was a good one, but the narration was hard to believe. The women weren't believable or liked and the men all sounded like vampires. It was hard to tell the German accents from the Russian ones. The story would have been better if it wasn't so easy to find the treasure.
