This book is a hard read. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Ryan. I had heard about her becoming a RITA Award Winner, then this book was chosen as our September Book for our Book Club (S.A.G.E.).
Ms. Ryan takes us through the horrific truth behind spousal abuse. We all say, that we would leave, but Ms.Ryan shows that it is easier said than done. But even with all the abuse, the romance is placed carefully, so that she (Iris), can hold on until she can rescue herself and her daughter. Her writing is so smooth, you feel wrapped in a warm blanket on a cold night.
