Historia
In a bravura feat of storytelling, Mark Haddon calls upon narratives ancient and modern to tell the story of Angelica, a young woman trapped in an abusive relationship with her father. When a young man named Darius discovers their secret, he is forced to escape on a boat bound for the Mediterranean. To his surprise, he finds himself travelling backward over 2,000 years to a world of pirates and shipwrecks, of plagues and miracles and angry gods.

Revisado: 06-12-20
Absolutely mesmerizing - wanted it to go on forever. Tim McInnerny is masterful and makes the story come alive. I think this book was meant to be listened to much like its source material

Looked forward to this final installment for years and it doesn’t disappoint. Ben miles is superb, the writing is magnificent, the story timeless. Hard to leave 1540 and re emerge in 2020 covid reality. Great time to escape to Henry’s court.

Insanely good
Revisado: 05-08-19
I thought nothing could come close to Lonesome Dove and while LD is in a class by itself, Comanche Moon is a stunning, wonderful, gritty, unforgettable read/listen. I will never forget characters like Inesh Skull and Buffalo Hump. We meet Blue Duck and Pea Eye and other now famous Hat Creek characters. I really enjoyed the Indian perspective which is a dominant feature of the novel. If you are a fan of Lonesome Dove you need to read/listen to the other books in the series including this incredible Comanche Moon.

Historia
The final book of Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove tetralogy is an exhilarating tale of legend and heroism. Captain Woodrow Call, August McCrae's old partner, is now a bounty hunter hired to track down a brutal young Mexican bandit. Riding with Call are an Eastern city slicker, a witless deputy, and one of the last members of the Hat Creek outfit, Pea Eye Parker, now married to Lorena -- once Gus McCrae's sweetheart. This long chase leads them across the last wild streches of the West....

Maybe my favorite of the series
Revisado: 05-08-19
I have listened to or read all 4 of the Lonesome Dove series and this final book is not to be missed for fans of the series. I don't want to give anything away since you never know who will live and who will die in a McMurtry story and Streets of Laredo is no different. It brings the stories of many of the characters in the 4 books to satisfying conclusions (no happy ever after guarantees here) and it is an addicting, compelling listen. I hated to come to the end.

Robert Fitzgerald's translation of The Odyssey has been the standard translation for more than three generations of students and poets. Macmillan Audio is delighted to publish the first ever audio edition of this classic work, the greatest of all epic poems. Fitzgerald's supple verse is ideally suited for audio, recounting the story of Odysseus' long journey back to his wife and home after the Trojan War. Homer's tale of love, adventure, food and drink, sensual pleasure, and mortal danger reaches the English-language listener in all its glory.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

If you love Mythology and saga you'll love this
Revisado: 01-23-19
This is the second Madeline Miller I have read and it as is good as the first (Circe). The Song of Achilles is beautifully narrated and seems to have been written to be read aloud. It's poetic, beautiful and a great story. If you are uncomfortable with fairly graphic sex scenes and a love story (between men) this may not be the book for you. The love story of Achilles and Patroclus is heartfelt and lovely. The story of the 10 year siege of Troy comes to life. I highly recommend this listen

Great story drawn out way too long
Revisado: 01-23-19
I am always looking for good historical fiction about this time period in England so was thrilled to find a trilogy about Emma of Normandy - a fascinating person who few know about. Patricia Bracewell certainly did her research and her historical facts are fairly accurate and you can learn a lot about life in Saxon England before the Vikings really took over and before the Norman invasion. But this novel is really drawn out and tedious - it covers a 4 year span with far too much detail of emotional hand wringing, spousal abuse, constant metaphors comparing weather to physical states and endless ghost sightings by the tortured King Ethelred. And of course the obligatory forbidden sex scene between the Queen and her stepson which is a total fabrication. I certainly can't imagine listening to Book 2 of the trilogy which doesn't even get us to Emma marrying Cnut. Unfortunately there are very few books written about this fascinating time so if you have an interest it may be worth a listen but I can't recommend it without reservation - I was too relieved when it finally ended..

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Revisado: 01-08-19
Cannot express how much I love this book. If you are interested in mythology, the Odyssey, Illiad, etc this is a don't miss. The story is rich and detailed, the narration is mesmerizing, I loved everything about it. I even bought Madeline Miller's other book before I finished this one since I didn't want it to end. It's completely different from my usual genre of historical fiction and history but this is poetic and fascinating.

Don't bother
Revisado: 01-03-19
I think maybe this is supposed to be juvenile literature. If you are looking for a good World War Two historical fiction this isn't it. You'll learn more about the flying trapeze in a circus than Nazis. Couldn't even finish it.
