Historia
A thirty-four-year-old American woman—a secret agent—is sent to do dirty work in France. “Sadie Smith” is how the narrator introduces herself to her lover, to the rural commune of French subversives on whom she is keeping tabs, and to the reader. Sadie has met her love, Lucien, a young and well-born Parisian, by “cold bump”—making him believe the encounter was accidental. Like everyone Sadie targets, Lucien is useful to her and used by her. Sadie operates by strategy and dissimulation, based on what her “contacts”—shadowy figures in business and government—instruct.

When does the story begin?
Revisado: 09-26-24
I am over halfway through and I’m still waiting for the plot to commence. Excellent descriptions and word pictures. But, no character development.

Historia
It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

Why the F bombs? Great story and good writing ruined by profanity in the dialogue
Revisado: 09-20-23
I realize that the F word, saying put your A down instead of just sit down and the D word are part of common parlance. And, it’s a shame! The story would be better with a less salty dialogue. Books are for us to escape into another world, not rub our noses into the world where we live.

Deputy coroner Mattie Winston knows everyone in the charmingly small town of Sorenson, Wisconsin - except the latest body discovered in a desolate field. If a woman this attractive had moved into town, the news would have surely hit the gossip mill in record time. So who was the murdered femme fatale? Whose knife was left planted in her chest?

Ok…
Revisado: 06-30-23
I always like to give a published author a chance. I am a native cheese head (Go Pack!Go Bruskies! Fear The Deer, Go Bucks!) I want to give fellow ‘Sconnies a chance. But, the main character was very unappealing. The language in the dialogue was an attempt to be realistic but it was also a turnoff.

More Soap Opera Than Great Writing
Revisado: 06-21-21
I persevered to the end of this book only because I was curious about what was going to happen to the main characters. The writing for this book is a typical sequel---a list of information rather than a riveting story. Book one has much better writing and an engrossing story line.

Why the phony accents?
Revisado: 01-10-20
It is a given that most of the listeners are native English speakers. So, why the affected German accents? If the protagonists were speaking their native German or Dutch, they would be speaking without an accent, correct? This always ruins a great read, in my opinion. Also, in the case of this recording, it actually makes it hard to understand the storyline.

How to ruin a good story...
Revisado: 12-06-19
How do you ruin a good story? Simple--put in a phony sounding German accent for the dialogue. We all know that the protagonist is Austrian. We all know that her boyfriend is Austrian. We all know that her parents are Austrian. (Spoiler alert!) We all know that her German guards are German speaking. Let it be and just do the story. We know that she would be speaking GERMAN, not accented English.

Revisado: 09-22-19
The story never seems to get off the ground. There is some decent prose and descriptions, but overall "lukewarm" as another reviewer said. This is being returned.

The Inside Story
Revisado: 05-03-19
WWII was fought in a time when there was no internet, no google. So many died in the cause of right and good that remain unrecorded. Any story about how Great Britain stood alone is a good story. The writing craft for this was excellent, too. I could see the trees blossoming in the French village, feel the drizzle of rain in the evening in Paris. The protagonist was also a young woman in post war USA who was on her own journey to find herself.
