Historia
At the intersection of the normal and the weird, lies the Grey: a place where whatever you believe in hard enough comes to dangerous life, and death, magic, and the unexpected lie in wait. The journey begins with a ghost's pleas for justice that lead paranormal PI Harper Blaine to an unsuspected crime. Ranging from harrowing to humorous, these ten tales from the imagination of bestselling author Kat Richardson travel into the realms of mystery, science fiction, fantasy, and more.

The Return of my favorite modern author of modern mythos
Revisado: 07-07-24
I'm really pleased to see Ms. Richardson back in print. The narration also really worked for me. I hope to see more from this author soon!

Historia
Chicago wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is used to mysterious clients with long hair and legs up to here. But when it turns out the long hair covers every square inch of his latest client's body, and the legs contribute to a nine-foot height, even the redoubtable detective realizes he's treading new ground. Strength of a River in His Shoulders is one of the legendary forest people, a bigfoot, and he has a problem that only Harry can solve. His son, Irwin, is a scion, the child of a supernatural creature and a human.

Story wasn't long enough
Revisado: 01-30-22
I really love this story. Harry is a little calmer a little more reasonable and friendly when he's dealing with Bigfoot and his Scion. The clash between star-crossed lovers and modern concepts is incredibly inviting. I absolutely hope that we get a lot more story about Bigfoot's son.
I know short stories have to be punchy, but I missed the complexities that usually beset Harry's solutions. And, I think Harry's impact on the last story was akin to Indiana Jones's efforts in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Sorry, I'm an old nerd.

The prequel caught me, barely
Revisado: 03-22-21
Didn't capture me the way the Irin Chronicals or any of the Elemental Vampire series did, but it convinced me to try the first novel of this series.
I think I'd have been happier with a bit more of a road trip vibe.

Historia
Leo Graf was just your average highly efficient engineer: mind your own business, fix what's wrong, and move on to the next job. But all that changed on his assignment to the Cay Habitat, where a group of humanoids had been secretly, commercially bioengineered for working in free fall. Could he just stand there and allow the exploitation of hundreds of helpless children merely to enhance the bottom line of a heartless mega-corporation?

The little lost should have been a series.
Revisado: 03-20-21
this is one of those rare offshoot books that should really have been bolstered up into a full series. I would love to see the Quadies reach their home space. I would also love to see the Quadies begin to explore other systems. We don't think of it, but there's a whole other space that could be explored by the Quadies and not come to the attention of the Vorkosiverse at all. They don't need or want habitable planets, and therefore could be exploring star systems that don't interest "normal" legged humans at all.
Just the descriptions of solar arenas without blue green planets, or even ruck systems without planetary bodies, but with still extant planetary would intrigue mightily.
which is to say that Bujold's Quadiverse has captured my imagination completely, at least for the moment.

We're all hard-wired
Revisado: 03-01-19
I read these as they came out. Now, finally, I'm "getting" why Legacy is such a fine ending for a solid series. I loved Vikktakkht's praise of peace, and I think he offered Hilfy a permanent position with the Kid, or maybe told her his plan for the future.

Great story, even if Smith can't write women.

I've been listening avidly, and I really enjoy hearing Reed McColm narrate this tale. while I love the lensman stories, I'm recognizing the old style monastic S.F. Sorry guys, but I like my S.F. diverse, and I'm glad the community has changed in the last century. :-)

Class pulp space opera, good narrator, tech fails
Revisado: 03-12-18
I ordered this with a whispersync kindle. they didn't link. I asked for help. Next day, the whispersync set was shown, but listed as unavailable at this time.
I had to download the audiobook three times because it kept dropping back to zero read and not playing.
All that said, I enjoyed the narrated version enough that I listened when at home, rather than reading, which I generally never do. usually listening is for the car, and meals in the dining facility.
Narration: Van Buskirk is a giant of a man. why is he narrated with a reedy voice? The Narrator fairly often starts sentences in one voice, then shifts to the actual speaker's voice. It's distracting. That's a common narrative problem, though,. and Mr. McColm is much better than most, IMO.
