Historia
Killing Floor is the first book in the phenomenal best-selling Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. It introduces Reacher for the first time, as the tough ex-military cop of no fixed abode. Trained to think fast and act faster, he is the perfect action hero for when times get tough.

Not a great listen if fairly graphic descriptions of violence aren't your thing.
Revisado: 09-05-24
After Philip Pulman's introductory comments I was expecting great things. They did not happen. Too many short stocatto sentences. Not much insight into the human condition. Stereotypes abound. Some reviewers have blamed the narrator. I think it was more the material he had to read. Disappointed.

An homage to Agatha Christie?

Beautifully read.
Language and themes are of their times so expect the usual misogyny.
That said it's a great old fashioned whodunit crafted by a great writer.

Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Don't be put off by poor reviews of the narration.
I've been with Audible from almost their beginning and it won't be long before I have 1000 titles in my Library.
I've listened to plenty of books where the narrator has been poor, and this emphatically is NOT one of them. Maybe it's because I am English and not American, I find the narrators voice in keeping with the story that's being told and in no way detracts from it.
Came to it from watching Netflix, really enjoyed it...

An adult who really enjoyed a children's story.
Characters you care about, a good narrative and a fulfilling ending, beautifully read by the author. The best of the 500+ audiobooks I have listened to...
