Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. GRISHAM GOES WOKE
Revisado: 05-14-24
📢 Couldn't get beyond chapter 18. Littered with current liebrawl woke veracular--the buzz words seem artificially inserted and redundant. scattered intentional hot- button issues all over this disaster of a story line. would NOT recommend reading this work of fiction when you get it for free from the woke media and their Daily Evening Spews. A first for me in reading Grisham for 16 years. SMH

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Historia
The office of the public defender is not known as a training ground for bright young litigators. Clay Carter has been there too long and, like most of his colleagues, dreams of a better job in a real firm. When he reluctantly takes the case of a young man charged with a random street killing, he assumes it is just another of the many senseless murders that hit DC every week. As he digs into the background of his client, Clay stumbles on a conspiracy too horrible to believe.

Historia
In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron’s home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence....

The very worst Grisham book. Thus far.
Couldn't make it past chapter 4.
Had this been my first JG book, I would have never picked up another.

Eerie and engaging--signed, a Pensacola Native
Revisado: 03-20-24
It was riveting and suspenseful , but jarring during the multiple murdering scenes, a bit too graphic and sinister. but a well thought out story line and characters. (And actually, having Mary Louise Parker narrate was a strong second as to why I purchased it outside my monthly Audible allotment!)
And although I live in Las Vegas, I was swept up knowing exactly where each and EVERY town that was mentioned and located! (except, zip code 32533 is Cantonment Florida, not 'Cullman' lol) and thankfully we have #Publix not #Krogers! lol Overall, I've read 14 of Grishams books, starting with The Firm-- but this was one of my top 6!! He's an ace and consummate story teller--AGAIN.
Lastly, I truthfully, I LOVE how he ALWAYS celebrates (his) our Southern heritage and parades how blessed and privileged we are to be native Southerners, and myself .. a very PROUD and thankful Florida native.
