Historia
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Worth the wait
Revisado: 12-09-24
RC Bray is the perfect narrator for this book! Starship Troopers isn’t really plot driven, but I still enjoyed it for the action and the militaristic philosophy.

Historia
Unemployed TV writer Lenny Sullivan has been having trouble seeing his life and times as anything more than fodder for edgy wisecracks. But when he bolts to Key West, things suddenly turn serious. Well, sort of serious. A bullying businessman in league with a pair of bumbling mobsters is plotting to burn down his best friend’s struggling comedy club. The pill-popping star of his last best chance at a hit show is under a death threat from a very sore loser in a love triangle. And Lenny’s staunchest ally happens to be a 90-something named Bert the Shirt.

Another flawless narration by Jem Matzan

The book was light fun material, but what really stands out is the excellent voice acting.

Best of the series (so far)
Revisado: 09-19-23
I’m not really into magical realism, but I’m such a fan of Alanson and Bray I had to give it a shot. I liked the fist 2 books enough to stick with it and I’m glad I did.

Historia
When I wrote Money Talks back in 2007, neither I nor anyone else imagined that the White House would soon be occupied by a man who bears such a striking and in fact uncanny resemblance to my villain, Robert Maxx. I wasn't trying to write a predictive dystopia; all I wanted to do was to tell an engaging story that would let me think my way into the mind of a real-estate mogul with a bullying manner, a head of hair flamboyant enough to match his ego, and a somewhat childish fixation to see his name on very tall buildings.

Entertaining book with an exceptional narrator
Revisado: 04-18-23
The story is entertaining straight through, interesting characters, and it never drags. The narration is really exceptional, the characters all have very distinct voices - the Trump impression is great without being over-the-top. Jem Matzan really is excellent, I rank him up there with my other favorite narrators like Simon Prebble and R.C. Bray.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Enjoyable, hoping the sequel is better
Revisado: 02-22-23
I love the books from the Expeditionary Force series, there’s an intangible excellence to them, lightning in a bottle. This book is not that, but it still has some good jokes, an entertaining story, a Joe Bishop-like lead character, and the excellent performance of R.C. Bray.

When Murray Zemelman, a.k.a. The Bra King, pops another Prozac and heads to the Keys, he has nothing much in mind beyond a quixotic hope of winning back his first wife, Franny, whom he dumped years before. But when he forms an unlikely friendship with Tommy Tarpon, the last remaining member of an obscure Indian tribe, another plan also starts shaping up in his fevered brain. Why not open up Key West's first casino?

Good book, excellent performance
Revisado: 07-03-22
Really enjoyed this one. The narrator’s performance was pretty much flawless with a lot of variation between characters.
It’s a very different genre than Craig Alanson’s Expeditionary Force series, but a similarity I like is the odd couple dynamic between Murray and Tommy. The back and forth banter with very distinctive voice performances works well.

Historia
It's the eve of the 22nd century: a world where the dearly departed send postcards back from Heaven and evangelicals make scientific breakthroughs by speaking in tongues; where genetically engineered vampires solve problems intractable to baseline humans. And it's all under surveillance by an alien presence. Daniel Bruks is a field biologist in a world where biology has turned computational.

Disappointing follow-up to Blindsight.
Revisado: 03-31-15
My only motivation to finish was my hope that this will be a trilogy and that the next book will be on par with Blindsight.
