Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Not The Best From Mr. King
Revisado: 08-08-24
I love Stephen King. I wanted to love this book but a few things got in the way of that. The book is just too long. By the end, I didn't care what happened. In between chapters, there was this weird music or sounds that did not add to the story. Some of it was like nails on a chalkboard. I don't why production thought the addition of the weird music and sounds was a good idea. I like Ralph, the protagonist. Lois, who I thought was a minor character, became a major one. I like that both Lois and Ralph were older and was able to play a major role in saving the lives of many people. It's not the best book from Mr. King and I probably won't read it again but it was decent.

Interesting Plot
Revisado: 04-26-24
I liked the plot of this book. The characters were interesting and the plot had a nice dramatic arc to it. The narrator had a nice voice. He struggles with adding drama and he doesn't do different voices well so sometimes I struggled with discerning what character was actually speaking.

Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

Disappointing
Revisado: 09-30-23
The plot was good, and 3/4 of the book was intriguing. I did not believe who the killer was. It made no sense and did not have foreshadowing at all. It was as if the writer had to have a surprise ending, so he selected the most unlikely person and then created a backstory. My problem is the backstory was not plausible. Ultimately, the end seemed forced and stilted.

Good Narrator, Predictable storyline
Revisado: 01-18-23
This story could have used heavy editing because the book was about 4 hours too long. I guessed the ending within the first hour of listening. I have guessed the plot twist in other novels before, but I still enjoyed the book and the plot twist along the way. Chloe Davis is the protagonist whose father was convicted of murdering six girls when she was only 13 years old. I don't know why but the publisher's summary says she was 21. Chloe studied psychology, presumably to understand why her father became a serial killer. You would do well to stay clear of her couch based on Chloe's behavior. Her behavior is ridiculous, reckless, and senseless. She is even prescribing drugs for her fiance and taking them herself. She needs therapy. She believes every male except her brother is a serial killer. Instead of going to the police, she tries to gather the evidence independently. The narrator did well reading the book.

Historia
All Cry Chaos is a masterful and gripping tale that literally reaches for the heavens. The action begins when mathematician James Fenster is assassinated on the eve of a long-scheduled speech at a World Trade Organization meeting. The hit is as elegant as it is bizarre. Fenster’s Amsterdam hotel room is incinerated, yet the rest of the building remains intact. The murder trail leads veteran Interpol agent Henri Poincaré on a high-stakes, world-crossing quest for answers.

Decent Story, Narration needs help
Revisado: 04-18-22
All Cry Chaos has an intriguing plot: a mathematician is executed by a bomb so exact that it only takes out the hotel room where he is staying. Henri Poincaré, a Sr. Investigator, at Interpol is assigned to investigate. He is joined by an Italian Investigator with questionable ethics. The story seemed a bit far-fetched which I really didn't mind. The biggest drawback was the narrator. Grover Gardner's narration is just dry. I couldn't tell one character from the other. I really did not get a sense that Poincaré was French except for his name. Most of the characters were European but with no accents, you really couldn't tell. He might do well with other books but this series needs a new narrator.

Mrs. Wiggins is a good book. I would have never guessed what Mrs. Wiggins becomes. So there is shock value. The ending was not as nearly as shocking because it was rather inexplicable. I would read another book by Mary Monroe.

Great
Revisado: 08-31-21
This is a great saga. The story guides us through the life of Harlan Elliot, a young African American man growing up in Harlem, New York. It intertwines the terrible impact of structural racism in the life of an African American family. Police are used to tear apart a friendship between Leo, a Jewish young man, and Robert, an African American young man. Harlan is arrested and serves time for possession of a small amount of marijuana. It also highlights the little-known fact that African Americans were in Nazi death camps. There is one plotline that was never addressed sufficiently but I would recommend this book highly.

Disappointing
Revisado: 04-30-21
I looked forward to White Nights as the second in the Shetland series. I loved Raven Black! I thought the story was terrific. The plot in White Nights seemed intriguing. The writing was just a good as Raven Black. What was so disappointing was the solution to the mystery. I simply did not buy who was revealed as the murderer and the rationale. I've purchased the next two books in the series. I hope they are better than White Nights.

Decent Story, So So Naration

I like the story okay, I was surprised at the ending. The narrator could have made this book a lot more enjoyable. Her narration wasn't smooth, it was stilted and lacked emotion.
