Not my most favorite in this series, mostly it was just meh. Boring. Needs more Sylphie.

If you rate this against any other story out there it’s head and shoulders over most other litrpg. But… If you rate this against the other books in the series it was just a solid 4 star over what has otherwise been 5 golden stars. Performance was spectacular. This series as a whole could very well be the gold standard of modern litrpg literature.

I don’t understand all the five star reviews. This story was inane and can best be described as dross. No challenges, everything is always hunky dory. Narration is superb. It was as if this was a narrated version of a child’s story book about fishing and crabs with cussing. If you’re looking for good fantasy, keep looking

The story doesn’t move forward in this book very much, which is basically a big dungeon novel. But I enjoyed every bit of it finishing it in a couple days and can’t wait for the Book 11 and the recap.

I didn’t like it. It just goes on and on from scene to scene that didn’t really need to happen. The story is funny at times but mostly just boring. I almost quit the book but decided to stick it out thinking that maybe the author was conducting some psychological or sociological experiment to see how many people he could force to quit reading, or in my case — quit listening, and then complain about it, I said.

Time Travel Done Poorly, But Good Story

I typically avoid time travel stories because it is extremely hard to do time travel well. Does this novel succeed in doing it well? Well, no, it doesn’t. And that part is annoying. But the story is decent and the characters believable and so was a welcome interlude to my normal high-fantasy demands. Worth a credit? Yes, but only because Ray Porter sells the characters and gives them life and some true emotion.

I wish you well, Prefect Dreyfus. Wherever your adventures take you. I hope to hear those new post Prefect stories soon, which will be Prefect perfect, I’m sure. As for you, John Lee… You are a treasure.

I don’t understand the high ratings…

I’m beginning to distrust Audible’s ratings and reviews. This was a DNF for me. Gave up about a third of the way. This was written as though the core demographic was 13 year old D&D nerds. And yes I get the irony, and yes I used to be one, but I’ve read far smarter LitRPG books that did the genre far far better. To be far the author did a preset decent job of describing what an actual game-play on this world would look like, but the constant stat and window reads were tedious. The narrator was fine, no complaints there. Overall I give it a solid ‘Meh’ and a ‘this is too juvenile for me’ rating. On to better worlds.

This was a DNF for me. I gave up after the third book because I just didn’t care. I didn’t care for any of the good guys, I didn’t hate the bad guys, and the story was simply boring. Character building was basic and world (space) building was non-existent. I wish Audible would do a better job of warning us when a story is YA, because that’s what this was — mediocre bland G rated blah. Narration was fine, no complaints with Mark (ever).

For much of this book, nothing of note happens. What does happen is over the top resolution. This book should have been called "A Series of Deus Ex Machina Moments." I did finish it, but just barely. It did get a little more interesting towards the end, but no big surprises. I'm six and done.
