Hard to take serious
Revisado: 08-04-24
This is the second book from this author that I have read, and I have a hard time taking it serious Perhaps the intention of the author is to make the book a bit of comedy as well as a horror or thriller, but if that is the case, it is not my cup of tea. Vampire stories should either be scary, romantic, or comedy, but not all three. In my opinion, this book is more of a comedy with a slightly scary twist. I like the idea of vampires getting revenge on people who abuse children. Maybe if I read the book instead of listen to the audio, I might have a better appreciation for it. I might check out other books that this specific narrator has done to see if it is his voice that I have issue with or if it is this book specifically. despite these complaints, I read the book in its entirety, but nearly 2/3 of the way through. I had to keep reminding myself to finish it and it was not the first book that I would turn to.

Great splatter punk story with a minor annoyance
Revisado: 01-22-24
I have read more than 10 splatter punk books since the summer of 2023. This one was the first I read from Kristopher Triana, and is one of my favorite books in this genre. In a way, it sort of reminds me of American psycho, which I read back in the 90s. I like how the story has a bit of character development, rather than only Gore. My only complaint is that while the narrator did a great job for the most part, her pronunciation of a few words here, and there was a bit off. For example, the word sinew. She pronounced it with a long I, as in, sine-you, instead of a short I, as in, sin-you. Still, though, if you can get past this, or if it simply doesn’t make a difference, the story is most certainly enjoyable. I will certainly be reading more books by this author.

Enjoyable, but characters are inconsistent
Revisado: 09-21-23
Overall, the book was enjoyable and I read it completely. Some others say that Angela Rysk wasn't a good narrator. I disagree. I like her gravelly voice, and I think she did great with male characters. Minor spoiler alert! When I started seeing the inconsistent behavior of characters, my science fiction mind started thinking that maybe there was some sort of alien presence in the town that was making characters behave in odd and inconsistent ways. However, as I read more and more, I saw that I was overthinking things. In the end, it was just nothing more than plot holes and inconsistent character Behavior. Once again, spoiler alert! Take Michelle, who has been held captive for a long time, who has had her feet burned and who has not had a decent meal during her captivity. Yet, when she is released from her shackles, she is not weak. She is running around as if she has been working out for the last several months. Furthermore, she doesn't appear to exhibit any sort of traumatic stress toward Abby, who has been one of her tormentors. Instead, she takes over, and even bullies her in a way that is inconsistent with someone who has been in captivity. I could give examples about other inconsistent character behavior but in the end, the story was enjoyable if you like this sort of thing.

great classic horror
Revisado: 08-30-22
let me start by saying that although I have read some of his books before, I have not read this one until just recently. the narrator did outstanding. the accents were perfect, the different intonations of both male and female characters were spot on. I am sure this is my own shortcoming, but it took me a while to finish this book because I would listen to a little bit, then come back, then listen some more. the book was easy enough to follow that if you miss a few seconds here and there, it is okay. although the story was great, it did not keep my attention the way other more modern horror books do. I don't believe this is any fault of the author, just my own lack of appreciation for older stories. all in all, a great read, listen, and highly recommended.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

a true classic must read
Revisado: 06-19-22
The Dark Tower series is, in my opinion, a different take on Stephen King's typical writing style. Considering how long it took him to complete the series, it shows how he has grown as a writer from the very beginning. additionally, There are a lot of Dark Tower tie-ins throughout other books that he has written, for example, the Stand, Salem's Lot, and It. While I firmly believe that George Guidall is an excellent narrator, this was a little different considering when you listen to the books read by the late Frank Muller. still though, this is not a bad read at all and highly recommended.

great narration, mostly great storyline
Revisado: 09-06-21
overall, I thought the book was excellent. very cringe-worthy so please take those cannibalism triggers seriously. on one hand, this is another futuristic dystopian world. on the other hand, it is not your typical zombie world or hunger games scenario. this is very refreshing. narration was spot-on, with the appropriate accents and inflections everywhere. I saw the ending coming. I was hoping that there would be a twist and it would not end the way I assumed. I was wrong. therefore, I was a little disappointed. however, one could argue that the writing was good because the ending provoked an emotional response from me. overall I do not feel it is a wasted credit.

Great Story If...
Revisado: 08-30-21
This is a great story if you take a few things into account. For starters, there are a lot of scenes in this book that some would consider extremely gory and sexually disturbing. If you take this story serious, this could be a bit bothersome, in which case, this book is not recommended for you. Now, if you take it with a grain of salt, sort of like what I do when watching trashy movies like Zombie Strippers and Cheerleader Massacre, which have almost no redeeming qualities, then this book is for you. When I first read this book, some of the dialog and scenes were so eye-rolling that they were good due to how bad they were written. I am not educated enough to know if the actions portrayed by the two main characters were based on real facts, as in, researched for accuracy. For all I know, the author just made stuff up. Without giving any spoilers, let's just say that some of the way the story pans out is extremely convenient. For example, security cameras in the hospital rooms, outside the hospital, the elevators, ETC. Yet, no cameras in the morgue. It's those kinds of things that allow me to get passed some of the so-called more disturbing content. Bottom line, if you are the type of person who laughs at certain horror books and movies because of how silly they are, then you will enjoy this book. All-in-all, I do not regret this purchase.

great story, bad narration
Revisado: 10-22-19
although the narrator herself has not changed, if you read the first two books and then compare the style of narration with this one, you will see a huge difference. I ended up reading the Kindle version rather than finishing this audio version. Beyond that, I liked the story.

not as good as the first book in the series
Revisado: 04-12-19
I like the story in general. However, this second book in the series felt what I feel was a lot of filler information. Slight spoiler inside this review, so read at your own risk. while I am all about noticing that an author has done his or her research regarding fighting, biological things, violence, science, etc, this second book almost seems like the medical descriptions of how things work was overdone to the point that I just wanted to get back to the story. Don't get me wrong, I still read the story through the end, but I frequently found myself losing attention or doing something else while the story played in the background. Another thing which I felt was a bit drawn out were things like the trip inside the catacombs near the beginning of the book. I did not feel that this added to the overall story, and again seemed only to serve as a filler while other things happened. Overall I like the very first book in the series more. That being said, it is not a waste of a credit.

Somewhat predictable but hard to put down
Revisado: 11-02-18
Let me first start by saying that I am an avid Star Trek fan. All of the references to Star Trek were spot on. This is by no means a Star Trek novel, but I wanted to put it out there that if the references to Star Trek were correct, chances are that the references to other things we’re also correct. The book was predictable in certain aspects. Without giving things away, let’s just say that I knew when certain people were going to either die or disappear. I am not sure how accurate the science is behind a lot of what happened in this book. However, considering that this is sci-fi, who cares? I think that the character development was not as deep as other novels I have read, but it was enough that I could not put the book down. The narrators voice is so we’re good. You could clearly tell who were speaking at any point, even when their point of view change to. If you want to read a relatively short book which deals with alternate realities, this one is highly recommended.
