Historia
Dave Pelzer was brutally abused as a child by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. She considered him a slave - no longer a boy, but an "it". He was physically and mentally tortured and starved. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare he experienced behind closed doors, and his father was aware of the abuse but turned to denial and alcohol. The abuse only fueled a determination to survive and become stronger.

Child Abuse is Too Common
Revisado: 03-05-25
“A Child Called ‘It’” by Dave Pelzer is a heartbreaking yet powerful memoir about his childhood abuse and survival. While it’s a difficult read due to its graphic descriptions of neglect and cruelty, it’s also an inspiring testament to resilience and the strength of the human spirit. Pelzer’s storytelling is raw and emotional, making it a book that stays with readers long after they finish. It’s an important read for raising awareness about child abuse, though it’s definitely heavy and not for the faint of heart.

As a mom, you want to nurture a strong family, but fear steals your joy. Jennifer Pepito was intent on loving her children well, but fear and worry pushed her around. Ultimately, she found her joy in a most surprising place: the pages of classic literature she was reading aloud to her children every day. These stories helped her reclaim the wonder of childhood for herself and her children. In Mothering by the Book, Jennifer takes you on a fascinating, whimsical journey that will bring freedom and fun to your parenting—one great book at a time.

Encouraging but a Bit Overdone
Revisado: 03-02-25
Mothering by the Book offers a refreshing perspective on letting go of fear in motherhood, with some great reminders to trust God in the process. The literary references were a unique touch, and there were definitely moments of encouragement throughout.
That said, some parts felt overly dramatic and repetitive, which made it a bit of a slower read. I also expected a stronger Christ-centered focus in certain sections. Still, it’s an enjoyable and uplifting book for moms who love literature and need reassurance in their parenting journey.

Grace-Based Parenting

Historia
Modern parents are stressed out and tired. They’ve tried countless parenting books, many of which are harsh, fear-based books that loving parents instinctively reject. As Christians, we frequently believe that the battle for a child's heart and soul is fought on the outside with rigid rules, when in fact the opposite is true. Rejecting rigidity and checklists that don't work, Dr. Kimmel recommends a parenting style that is the opposite, emphasizing the importance of communicating the unconditional love that Christ offers and affirming this timeless message of grace to one's family.

A Solid Foundation for Grace-Based Parenting, But Lacking Clarity on Discipline
Revisado: 02-09-25
Tim Kimmel presents a compelling and biblically grounded approach to parenting in Grace-Based Parenting, emphasizing the importance of raising children with love, trust, and freedom rather than fear and legalism. His insights into how grace mirrors God’s relationship with us are both encouraging and practical, making this book a valuable resource for Christian parents who want to cultivate a home centered on Christ’s love.
However, I found his approach to discipline somewhat frustrating. While he doesn’t explicitly advocate for spanking, he also doesn’t reject it, instead suggesting that parents should choose what works best for their child. This neutrality feels like a missed opportunity to fully align his discipline philosophy with the grace-filled approach he spends most of the book advocating. Leaving discipline open-ended weakens the clarity of his message and may leave some parents unsure of how to apply his principles in practice.
Despite this, Grace-Based Parenting still offers many valuable takeaways, particularly in challenging parents to trust God with their children and lead with unconditional love. I’d recommend it for its overall message, but with the caveat that it doesn’t provide a strong stance on discipline.

Historia
In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God―grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.

Must read
Revisado: 02-07-25
Parenting by Paul Tripp is one of those books that I wish every Christian parent would read. It’s not a list of parenting hacks or behavior-management strategies—it’s a heart-level, gospel-centered approach to raising children. Tripp reminds us that our kids don’t just need discipline; they need grace, just like we do.
What I love most is how he continually brings everything back to Christ. Instead of trying to control outcomes, he encourages parents to faithfully shepherd their children, trusting God with the results. His perspective has challenged me to shift my focus from simply correcting behavior to truly discipling my children.
This book is both convicting and encouraging. It doesn’t leave you feeling burdened with more to do, but instead, it points you to the freedom and hope found in Christ. If you’re a Christian parent looking for wisdom that goes beyond surface-level advice, this is a must-read!

Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Honest & Strong
Revisado: 03-01-24
I appreciated David’s narrative aimed at inspiring others to recognize their own greatness. Personally, I attribute our greatness to God, viewing my truest powers as reflections of His grace and mercy. This perspective is my only reservation in not giving the book a full 5 stars; I believe that everything should ultimately point to God rather than solely ourselves.

Stephanie Kelton's brilliant exploration of modern monetary theory (MMT) dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient infrastructure. Any ambitious proposal, however, inevitably runs into the buzz saw of how to find the money to pay for it, rooted in myths about deficits that are hobbling us as a country.

stay away!!
Revisado: 05-27-23
Stay away! This book is based entirely in a fictional universe written to convince the reader that it’s reality. It is absolutely dangerous because it doesn’t even challenge the reader’s beliefs, views or ideology. It completely changes definitions without factual support and completely ignores the existence of microeconomics. This book and this author should be recategorized into “fantasy”. Stay away from this book, the author, her two colleagues, and the entire mythical ideology of MMT. It’s all an absolute waste of time and is so unbelievably laughable! 😂

Disappointed
Revisado: 12-07-22
I’m honestly disappointed… I thought because everyone and their dogs were reading “these books” (books written by Colleen Hoover), that I would have been addicted to it and felt like it would be my new favorite book. I feel this way because I didn’t really like how cringy their love made me feel… I loved the plot twist but somehow she didn’t keep the intensity I was enjoying until the end. The ending felt so weak to me. It doesn’t leave me obsessing over the story. So idk, I guess I’ll get a lot of hate for this review, but I stand by my decision 😂
