Looks like I've added a new series to my TBR list. It's well worth it.

I have to admit that I started my reading of The Magician's Brother with the same (low?) expectations as with any other YA/Urban Fantasy book... they are kind of run-of-the-mill dime-a-dozen [insert any other cliche to taste].

But no!

First of all, the dry British sense of humor is oozing from every sentence and I found myself not just chuckling, but outright laughing at times. The storyline is quite familiar from other similar series... but the delightful dry sarcasm is so refreshing if feels like something new.

I did not expect anything beyond a three or at most a weak four-star rating, but for the reasons mentioned above and the OUTSTANDING narration by Kevin Kemp I gladly gave it the full bag of five gold stars.

Please spread the word to your friends since we all want the rest of the series on Audio, don't we?

An Ancient Enemy is a new Story Arc in the excellent Destiny's Crucible series. But... I feel like we got plunged into it without any real backstory and it left - me at least - curious for how it will continue. The reason I give it 'only' four stars is for that reason. Since Olan Thorensen did take us there, he did leave out way too much for me to enjoy it fully. This should have been a full novel instead of a novella.

Another excellent short installment in Dennis Freeman's Terrorverse. Excellent narration by RK Meier and this short and fast-paced story got a few chuckles and outright laughs out of me. As it happens, it's just as long as my commute.

Well written, excellently narrated and, I believe, a good foundation to the rest of the series.

After this prequel, I'm heading straight into Ambush.

The narrator killed this book for me. I surrendered only a quarter into it. I might have to get the Kindle version if I ever want to finish it, though I doubt I will do so. The story never got me interested in the fate of the quartet. On to greener pastures...

I got this book from the man himself, Dennis Freeman, who've I've gotten to know a bit through our shared love of another authors books. The first letter in said author's name is R... obert Bevan. I gratefully accepted this gift and promised an honest review in return. It was not what I expected. It was way beyond that... in a good way.

This short story left me wanting more. It's as simple as that. The references to know Horror Icons and in my opinion Robert Bevan's effed-up universe of Caverns and Creatures was delightfully inserted into this way too short story. I'm going to utilize my (probably non-existent) influence over Dennis and urge him to keep 'em coming in the Terrorverse and even stretch them into full fledged novels with short stories skillfully woven in among them.

The narrator did an ok job, though I had to speed him up to 1,15 to make it better for my taste.

You don't have to be an aficionado of teenage-cabin-horror movies to love this book. I'm a walking proof of that. Highly Recommended!

If you just picked up this book, or you're about to do so, keep this in mind... Relaxing? No! This is a 16 hour dose of non-stop action and suspense, straight from known history.

This book offers a very plausible glimpse into the lives of the people who lived and died during England’s most turbulent times or what has become known as the War of the Roses. As a devotee of Historical Fiction, this one hit the spot even though at times the endless string of “unfortunate events” that seem to hit our protagonists get to be a little bit too much. The battles and other major events so vividly described in the book are historical facts as well as the many historical figures that appear. The fictional characters have been delicately woven into the story and who is to say that they’re not founded in real persons… who knows?

Overall, this is a very enjoyable book and I eagerly await the other three books in the series to become available on Audible.
