Historia
It’s been eight years since an alien invasion drove a small surviving group of settlers to seek refuge in an underground shelter. Cut off from the rest of humanity, the ragtag band has maintained a narrowly functioning colony due to communal effort and salvage runs. Alex Archer has her own duties as a dog handler. While this off-world colony may be harsh, Ash, Alex’s black shepherd raised to sense threats, makes living in it a little nicer.

Read this one, cant handle the narrator.

Disclaimer - i love this author, have folled all his books, bought this sight unseen because its this author..... BUT......After the two previous narrators used by this author, I am gutted by this one. Restarted this book half a dozen times and cant get past the narrator and character voices. Just because a female narroter has to put on a male voice doesnt mean it has to be utterly asthmatic and un listenable. READ THIS ONE INSTEAD.

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

Simply the best - I can't recommend this enough!
Revisado: 04-30-21
I am so pleased I gave this book a listen. I now have a new favourite author and two more narrators to follow.
I read a review where the review said she'd already listened to this multiple times. That's not usually me - but I'm on my second listen right now and I only listened to it last night. This is the kind of book you enjoy, you inhale and you think about later because there is actually gentle yet subtle situations described that we all know, many of us have experienced (you'll see) and after you let it percolate in your mind a while later you'll get that sense of peace because we've all been there.
The characters are so real - so normal Cara Bastone writes them perfectly. I'm so glad I met them both! You know, I tire of reading reviews on an books where people disparage the characters as not being whole, or they're like cardboard or worse they're insipid women and moronic men that just don't connect with the story - well, that's NOT the case here. Truly, give this the five minute test, hell it had me in less than 60 seconds.... pulls you in because it's just so real and as a romatic myself I love the way this feeds my imagination, feeds my need for these two to end up happy. There are punch the air moments, when Eliot describes Jessie as a badass as she ... well - you'll have to read it to find out what THAT'S about!
Last night I say with my very unhappy Border Collie who is suffering old age and needed more cuddles and attention after a minor surgery a few weeks ago. My Dani girl just needed me - and one of my dogs favourite things is to curl up together with me on the lounge and listen to an audible book with me. So here is me in the middle of the night with Miss Dani, snuggled in blankets on the lounge and napping gently while we listened together...
Right now ironically my girl is on the couch in my office (so you can never have enough comfy couches when you've got dogs!) and whilst still working from home for the past year I often put a book on to listen to as I work... and Dani is napping again and happy.
Thank you Cara Bastone, and audible - I listened for free because it's included in my membership - but I'd gladly pay for this book, it's a keeper! x

Excellent book, don't be detered by other reviews
Revisado: 03-26-21
For those that only read the first paragraph of a review:
I LOVED this book
I am a dedicated fan of Marko Kloos because he is a brilliant writer and I love visiting the worlds and characters he's created in this series.
I LOVED listening to Luke Daniels narrate this series but EQUALLY I am now HOOKED on Eric G. Dove as well. So much so I will be checking out what else he's narrated because he's really good at it and has been entered on my list of "go-to" narrators.
So I get it - there is a huge among of angst in reviews I've read about the not only the change of narrator, but also the huge cliff hanger and now an unknown wait to the next instalment. Too bad I say, it's how it is when something is this good. As my dear departed Father would say "It can't be Christmas every day or else it wouldn't be special when it comes around."
It's pretty pissy when readers throw a temper tantrum and (I think I read) as one reviewer said "I won't be wasting another dollar on your books" - well, big fool you buddy! You see I'm here for the author predominantly, not the narrator. Yes I have my favourites for sure and yes I have narrators on my list that I would sit and listen to them read the phone book to me (ok, not really but you get my point?). I saw the change in narrator and my heart dropped a little - but I can't not listen to Marko Kloos books because of that - I listen to Marko Kloos because a) I love his stories, b) I adore his style and c) I TRUST him as an author who is sending his babies out into the world entrusted to the BEST narrators in his opinion. So walk away if you want to, petulent-few - but it's you who is missing out and I'm pretty perturbed by the outright meaness and selfishness in some of the other reviews. Shame on you, #fairweather-fans I say.
The first six books of Frontlines I happily devoured, discovering Marko Kloos when there was only a book or three available and the truth is, whether you thought it or not - we're ripe for a new arc to this story - and this arc will leave not leave you for a good while! Ask yourself what you thought was going to happen in this book - another Lanky battle? more of the same characters and a happily ever after that neatly finished off the book and the listen until next time? Not going to happen, so spoiler alert from here on down.
Spoiler Alert.... second and final warning.
I LOVED this book so much and I'm about to put it on again and listen to it again - for the second time this week.
There are new characters - check
There are new ships - double check
There are new thoughts on Lankies and where they come from, what their motives are and what does that mean for humanity.... - triple check.
There is a whole new generation to build on what we have learned of the Lankies (not much you'd imagine, but you'd be wrong) and there is a whole new delicious curve-ball that I can see for many (please, Mr. Kloos) instalments to come.
I was crushed when I reached the end of book seven (aka: the turning point) - and I want to read the next instalment right now if not yesterday - but, BECAUSE this is so good and I have the utmost respect for this author and LONG MAY HE WRITE - I will wait im(patiently), but I will wait - until I get a chance to catch up with this world and their characters again.
I want to know about that message in the bottle, the jar of dog-tags, who's in those Lanky ships - are they Lankies? were the humans all really wiped out .... what the hell has a pincer-grip larger than a Lanky - and who taught them to zig-zag?
So much to come.... Bring it, I say.

Once trapped by marriage to a woman he loathed, Fitzwilliam Darcy is finally free again. Resentful, bewildered, and angry, he is eager to begin his life over - preferably with a woman who is the exact opposite of his wife. He never imagined a short stay in Hertfordshire would bring him face to face with his worst nightmare; a woman similar in face, form, and name. He certainly never expected her to be so impossible to ignore.

My Work From Home work-buddy!
Revisado: 07-17-20
I really like this book. I have downloaded a number of the Subliminal Guru recordings now and have found this is the best way to keep my concentration strong and my focus in place for working from home, studying, whatever I'm doing really. I gave it a chance because I really needed what it was offering; self-confidence, sefl-esteem, a positive attitude was just something I wanted but self doubt usually eroded. I was using this bundle before Covid - a year before Covid? I don't know, but it's been a long time now - and all I do is put it on, and get to work - when it gets to the end I hit play again and off I go.
I've read the reviews saying that people can't hear what's being said over the music and other misgivings but if you understand what subliminal is all about then you'll get it and I can assure you I'm better with it than without it. I would highly recommend this for anyone to try - it's not a "go to sleep" listen, this is a working tool for me and never do I feel tired listening. 20 of of 10, totally love it.

Refreshing take on police procedural
Revisado: 12-21-18
I really enjoyed this book and the first of the series. I am taking a time out to review before topping up my credits and buying the next and subsequent books. what I especially enjoy is the depth of characters, and they have grown since book one. I struggle with Kay's mum, so many parallels I can draw it actually made me edgy, but as difficult as that was for personal reasons, I applaud the writer's ability to execute her craft so well. I loved Kay's dad and related equally so. the plots are strong and well detailed, with few holes, which I love. I also am excited by the various story arcs that *spoiler alert* are not one book long, some I dread to think will go for so much longer yet (I use 'dread' only because I want to know now!!! lol). This is a well done series, tightly plotted and can't wait to listen to more.

I really liked this one - I follow Jan Cramer the narrator and always check out what she is performing. I really liked the interactions of characters and the unfolding past was tremendous. There was more than enough mystery in this to fulfill a sequel or three so really hope the author does that....

The Marigold Chain is a little different to other historical romance novels - it has a good mystery woven through the character's story and the hero is a little bit tarnished to say the least!
Without giving away key plot elements I truly loved Chloe, Alex, Matt, Danny and the rest of the ensemble. I can see plenty of room for a sequel or three :) and will be looking out for them.
Well worth spending a credit on - if you've never listened to Stella Riley's books before - you're in for a treat and if you have - then you won't be disappointed :)

A victim killed with a single, precise stab to the heart appears at first glance to be a robbery gone wrong. A caring, upstanding social worker lost to a senseless act of violence. But for Detective Kim Stone, something doesn't add up. When a local drug addict is found murdered with an identical wound, Kim knows instinctively that she is dealing with the same killer. But with nothing to link the two victims except the cold, calculated nature of their death, this could be her most difficult case yet.
