Their daughter goes missing and they don't call the cops? That’s one of many intriguing mysteries deliciously and intricately layered in this audiobook. Layer upon layer, twist upon twist, secret upon secret, this is a case tailor-made for a Sherlock Holmes devotee like private investigator Joey Mancuso. The ruthless kidnappers have something huge to cover up…an operation involving stolen art that’s being used to finance one of the greatest evils on the planet.

JUSTICE, LAW ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME.RIGHT, JOEY ?
Revisado: 06-08-18
I loved it ! Parr has developed a colorful family of characters, wonderfully portrayed by Narrator Fred Filbrich, who engage in old fashioned sleuthing. The Main character, Joey Mancuso operates a Wall Street Pub with his half brother, a Priest. Joey happens to be a former NYPD homicide detective. The family runs their detective agency out of the pub. Intricate scenarios entrap this Sherlock Holmes-like family. In this case, there are three or four crime tracks running at the same time ! One involves the theft and trading of ancient artifacts stolen in the MiddleEast and traded on the Black Market to help terrorists and underworld investors.. I am of the Boomer Generation, so I constantly also think of Charlie Chan and his Number One Son, as the Mancuso Clan take on the Dark Side. Joey has a rigid ethical and moral standard with a big heart. However, the existing legal structures which today tilt toward the bad guys sometimes get.... well, ignored temporarily in the interest of plain Justice and expediency. Miranda does not accompany Mancuso on his investigations. Given the crimes uncovered and the victims' injuries, you probably will join me in cheering Joey on as he administers some comeuppance. He is a crack shot with nerves of steel and a creative, intricate mind. He has great instincts and he carefully follows leads thinking out loud all the time, entertaining us as he tricks us into the wrong conclusion. It is all great fun and it is impossible to not learn something interesting because Parr has carefully researched the material in the plot. Joey would not have it any other way. Enjoy !

Historia
Meticulous NYPD cop-turned-private eye Joey Mancuso is summoned to assist the Midtown South precinct in unraveling a harrowing string of savage murders targeting young professional women. These chilling acts of violence echo the haunting words of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, who once proclaimed that murder is not driven by lust or violence, but by possession—a notion that now haunts the NYPD as three perplexing strangulation cases leave the midtown unit at a loss.

Thank You For Your Service, Detective Joey Mancuso

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
We listen to audiobooks to be entertained and to learn. This exciting book paints a movie in your mind. We ride with Detective Joey Mancuso while he trails a New York Serial Killer. It is long, hard, sometimes harrowing and always exhausting meticulous work. Owen Parr teaches us the finite points of good detecting. We learn the science involved, the team work required. The bravery and patience. Why would anyone do this job? Do they get recognition from their fellow citizens? Do they get paid big bucks? But hundreds of thousands of them do it every day-- solving crimes. But Joey Mancuso is a Detectives detective. We watch the best. And it is fun to watch and learn.
What did you like best about this story?
The forensic education and learning more about the finer points of detecting-- which requires constant thought and creativity.
What about Fred Filbrich’s performance did you like?
Fred is terrific ! His voice, his modulation, his theatrical contribution to the characters. Fred IS Joey and he IS the other characters. Truly amazing.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I just wondered, page by page, where the next rabbit trail was going to take us. I kept wrongly guessing the ending. A mental Hall of Mirrors. Lots of fun.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend this to a friend who is planning a trip to Venice,
Istanbul and Florence. They will not need a guidebook.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Stephen Cannnell
Which scene was your favorite?
The end.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
This book is a movie script, so I would not need to go to the movie.
Should also be on travel channel.
Any additional comments?
This movie script is akin to Mission Impossible meets Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The premise is ridiculous, the author took his FODOR's and spliced in totally
irrelevant travel and historical facts. It is a Mile Wide and an Inch deep.
If you like to travel, read this book. Otherwise, never mind!
The narration is spectacular !

"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Understanding the Politics of Intelligence
Revisado: 11-22-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book explains the dilemma of a democracy attempting to
protect itself in a world of tyrants and thieves.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Company?
When the idealists from both the American and Soviet sides realize the
reality of world currents. When the Cubans and Hungarians learn that they have been abandoned to die by American politicians.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?
I think that Toretti ( The Sorcerer ) was my favorite character. He had no illusions about the
impossible tasks assigned.
Each of the characters are composites of real people who have done the things described in this book. This is a non-fiction, accurate portrayal of real people. The "fiction" wrap is just a cover. This book speaks the truth.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Time after time, America has embroiled itself in stirring revolutions covertly, only to back out when the political risks become apparent-- leaving countless millions abandoned on the beaches of war-- many to be slaughtered. Generations of desk politicians have made the same mistakes over and over. Hungary, Bay of Pigs, Venezuela, Vietnam,-- and on and on. It has run counterproductive to what we say we espouse.
Those who are on the frontlines of shadow wars are in danger. Idealistic young lives
developed in this book frequently devolved into self-doubt. Very sad.
Any additional comments?
If you want to learn the reality of career intelligence officers, this book shows it all.
If you want to understand the foibles of a democracy stumbling around the world and engaging in hypocritical policies, read this book.
If you want to understand the lives of some real heroes of America, visit the careers of men and women who put themselves in danger to protect us and our pocket books.
There are those who will risk it all for this country. They are unknown, unappreciated, and frequently tormented by politicians and journalists. You will meet them all here. Read this book.

Historia
Four years ago, LAPD detective Harry Bosch was on a movie set, asking questions about the murder of a young production assistant, when an armored car arrived with $2 million cash for use in a heist scene. In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.
