Historia
Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

I have mixed feelings...
Revisado: 05-15-24
on the ine hand, it was a good story, well written, and I love Charlotte and Sutton. on the other hand, I don't know if I enjoyed it enough to justify spending 21 hours listening to it. But, at the same time, the plot was so complex and there were so many important things happening that I don't think it could have been as good as it was if it were a shorter book. So I'm a little torn about whether it really was worth the time investment.
aside from that, it really was well written and there was a good amount of depth to the characters due to what they were going through throughout the book. I also really love Sutton's family (aside from her younger sister who got on my nerves), but I couldn't stand her friends! they're THE WORST! but the ending felt a little anticlimactic, especially considering everything the characters went through to get there and, again, how long it took to get to the end. it was a really good ending for a book half the length or shorter, but for everything that happened and the anticipation that builds over the course of 21 hours, it fell a little flat for me.

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

really easy, fun listen. definitely more vibes than plot, which I love when I'm in the mood for, but isn't for everyone. I really enjoyed that it was more like an audio rather than a book, too. it's was just cute and fun.

so hot!
Revisado: 08-24-23
this book is incredibly erotic from start to finish! and it just kept getting better the further I got into it. I only wish it was longer because I didn't want it to end. I really wish there was a sequel from the POV of the same character when she reaches the same level as The Girl.

seriously disappointed!
Revisado: 12-16-22
the premise of this book sounded interesting but the execution was terrible (obviously that's just my opinion) despite the fact that Elissa Sussman has, apparently published other books in the past, this sounded like the first draft of a debut novel. the fact that "I said/he said" was written after EVERY SINGLE LINE OF DIALOGUE (with the occasional "I asked" in the second half of the book) was infuriating! not every line even needs a dialogue tag, let alone the exact same one every time! Chani is one of the least likeable characters I've come across in a book, let alone as a love interest. Gabe has potential to be lovable if he weren't quite so one dimensional. the fake articles after every chapter was also irritating, but would have been less so if the significant plot points they addressed hadn't already been explained in the chapters. one or the other would have been way better!
as far as the narrator, I'm not sure if she's not that great at reading dialogue, or if it's just that the book hardly gave her anything to work with. but her male voices weren't great. I'll give her credit for the fact that they weren't the same gravely voices I hear most female narrators give men! but Gabe's voice sounded like the voice you make when imitating a guy who said something really stupid (I guess that's fitting since that's how people see the character?) and Oliver honestly sounded like an older woman rather than a man. which isn't the worst thing, but I thought it was the model that Gabe was supposedly dating when she first read his dialogue before clarifying who spoke. her British accent wasn't bad though, so there's that. maybe she's better when the dialogue she has to narrate doesn't sound so choppy and forced though?

Historia
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 11-20-22
TW: pretty spicy from very early on! moderate ablism from minor characters, some sexual harassment and forced kissing, moderate aggressive/possessive behavior (that doesn't lead to violence aside from one punch toward the end of the book)
I wouldn't call this book a masterpiece, but I really enjoyed it! I really appreciated the author's depiction of autism in this book! it was very relatable in so many ways! though I felt the narration felt very robotic when reading Stella's dialog, which was disappointing. I feel like the narrator also struggles with guys voices, but if that doesn't bother you it's a good listen. I absolutely fell in love with Michael, and his entire family! 😍

not my style, but not necessarily bad
Revisado: 05-01-22
for the most part the narrator does a decent job with, at least, doing different accents for different characters, but her voice basically remains the same. sometimes it seems like she even forgot to do the voice she came up with for a character, so it was hard to tell who was talking sometimes. otherwise the way she reads is fine/relaxing, but not really exciting/gripping, which can work depending on your preference.
as far as the story, I can't criticize it too much since I'm not a huge fan of romance to begin with, this one just sounded interesting. and, for a romance novel, I guess it was. but it's probably best to leave those critiques up to someone more familiar with the genre.

Beauty and the Beast for adults!
Revisado: 04-24-22
I wasn't so sure about it at first. I don't mind cussing, but it felt forced and out of place at the beginning, but don't let that put you off! if you like spicy, kinky fantasy, this is and AMAZING book! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I don't know what some of these reviews were talking about as far as "stalker, rape" whatever! everything is totally consensual and the "stalking" wasn't sex driven! over all a great 18+ retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and I can't wait to read the next book!
