I love Jayda Marx’s books, she’s one of my favorite authors. The story was great! The bit at the end where he only shifted his head was hilarious, I don’t think I’ve read a book where a shifter could do that so it was definitely an interesting surprise, lol. I’m not sure how I felt about Weldon’s nickname for Tatum. It was a bit odd but the reason for it made sense and was actually kind of great in that regard, lol.

Going onto my review of the narration, I wasn’t really a fan of Denver Stevens. This is the first audiobook of his I’ve listened to so maybe these tones he used were by choice and he can do others? Either way, I felt he wasn’t the best narrator for this story. I have a list I keep with 5 categories to keep track of narrators I like/love. He would rank #4 which is my “I don’t not like them but would try to avoid if possible” list.
At the beginning of the book, in Weldon’s POV, he did this weird thing where his voice echos. I believe that it was used to distinguish his thoughts but it only happens like 3-5 times in one chapter and it was a bit hard to understand because of how strong the echo was and was just overall unnecessary and off putting.
I don’t want to say he spoke in a very monotone way because that wasn’t really it but I honestly can’t think of the word I’m looking for, but his voice didn’t change much, not even for scenes that definitely called for a change in voice. I think I could have lived with the way he did Tatum’s voice but for Weldon, his voice was way too high. That probably seems stereotypical of me, giving the daddy a lower pitch voice, but I just had a hard time thinking of Weldon as a daddy and it wasn’t just Weldon’s voice that was an issue. Denvers voice was higher pitched throughout the whole book for every character, higher pitched than the average man, which is another reason why it was hard for me to connect. It was just very grating on my ears. It just doesn’t seem like the narrator is capable of doing different voices, I feel like AI probably could have gotten pretty close to this which is why it’s just not the best narration.

Overall, I love the story, and while I feel bad for speaking bad of the narration because there is a high chance that narrators read reviews of books they narrate, I just think the story deserved a better narration.
