Martin Freeman's narration is BRILLIANT!
Revisado: 03-19-13
As I walk along listening to Martin Freeman reading The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, I have a big, stupid grin on my face, and I can see people are giving me a wide berth ... :)
Several people have complained about Martin's portrayal of Zaphod, but I think it's terrific! -- A joy to listen to.

David Tennant's narration makes this worth the $$!
Revisado: 03-02-12
Cressida Cowell's "How to Train Your Dragon" series comes to life as read by Scottish actor David Tennant. His voice is magical - the accents he gives some of the characters are over-the-top hilarious -- just perfect for this great romp. Our family has the books but we have also purchased the audio versions just to hear David Tennant's performance. (Of course, as huge Doctor Who fans, we are a bit biased!)

Terrific book - not a terrific narration
Revisado: 02-28-12
If you could sum up The Drop in three words, what would they be?
compelling, tight, dark
How could the performance have been better?
I love Len Cariou's acting, but his narration is lacking. You can hear him pause at the end of every line on the page he's reading. It's annoying.

Historia
Set against the bloody background of the French Revolution, this is perhaps Dickens' most famous work. Doctor Manette, his devoted daughter Lucie, and the young French aristocrat Charles Darnay are memorable characters. Above all the others rises the reckless Sidney Carton, whose selfless love makes him one of literature's great heroes.

You wouldn't think anything could make this classic any better, but Tom Baker's narration is exquisite. I hope he can be persuaded to read more Dickens.

Historia
Here is the story of Pip and his mysterious rise from abused orphan to gentleman. Magwitch, the brutal convict, withered Miss Havisham, still wearing her yellowed wedding gown, and the heartless and beautiful Estella, are vibrant characters. Listen in to this superb story told with typical Dickensian warmth and humor and woven around unforgettable characters.

Tom Baker's narration - exquisite
Revisado: 04-21-11
I have loved this story for a long time, but decided to spend the few $$ to get the audible version with one of my favorites Tom Baker narrating. He is sublime! He does the different voices very well. It's simply wonderful to listen to the narration in a British accent. He just does a wonderful job. Well worth the $$, even if you're very familiar with the book. I just wish he would record more Dickens!!

Historia
Deftly blending such genres as mystery, science fiction, and classic literature, Jasper Fforde’s gleefully irreverent New York Times best-selling Thursday Next novels defy categorization. In this sixth installment, the threat of all-out Genre war looms over BookWorld. But with the real Thursday Next retired in the real world, the Council of Genres has no other choice than to tap the fictional Thursday to save the day. Her mission as emissary is to prevent the brewing war—but her task is made more difficult by a hidden foe manipulating events.

GREAT book. TERRIBLE narration
Revisado: 04-17-11
I'm a big fan of Jasper Fforde & the Thursday Next series. I really enjoyed the book, but the purpose of this review is to comment on the narration. The narrator can't do voices at all, in particular male voices. The voice of Landen, one of the most important characters in the book, is done in a dull monotone, which doesn't even sound human. It's difficult to imagine the main character in love with him. Other male voices are done in a similar slooooow, deeeep voice which is more distracting than anything else. Plus there are careless mistakes, where she uses the wrong voice, or stays in character when she shouldn't, or vice versa. But I guess that's an editing problem. I had to buy a print copy because I couldn't stand it any more. My plan had been to buy all the books in the series on audio, but I won't buy anything else from this narrator.
