Great debut from an author to watch

The story is solid and entertaining, and Lewis permeates the whole thing with constant dread, but where she excels as an author is characters. Good authors write memorable characters. Great ones write flesh and blood people. Katrell and her allies are deeply drawn and wholly believable, and in Katrell's mom and her mom's boyfriend, Lewis has created two of the most detestable, chilling villains I've read in recent memory.

Best Jack Jr book in a long time!

Bentley is a welcome addition to the Clancyverse. Target Acquired is one of the best of the Jack Jr books. Fast paced and high octane!

Kick-Ass military SciFi!

Loved this book! Cole shines a spotlight on the USA's most underappreciated branch of the military in a unique military SciFi yarn full of great world-building and a diverse cast of memorable characters. Narrator did a excellent job bringing the story to life. Highly recommend!

Fantastic

If you love high-flying adventure and witty banter, this title is not to be missed. Bennis renders her fictional world and characters in vivid detail, and they jump off the page. The banter between the sassy airship captain and the aristocratic fop sent to spy on her is first rate, and their frenemy-ish relationship was the high point of the book. Reading's narration perfectly captures both the action and the dry wit. Loved it all from start to finish!

Awesome spin on the zombie apocalypse

Dread Nation hooked me with it's killer premise (the dead rising from the fields of Gettysburg), and drew me in with it's great world-building and awesome heroine. Manages to be a fun read without flinching from the harsh realities of our history.

Epic!

Be whisked away to a world of spider knights, biomech beserkers, flying battleships, and the Steampunk equivalent of the Jedi Order. The world-building is immersive, the narration top notch, and while the story starts a little slow, give it time. Once it builds up steam (pun absolutely intended) it never stops. The worst thing I can say about it (besides being fairly graphic on the violence side) is it has what I call "Black Panther Syndrome", in which it's perfectly fine main character is often outshone by his incredible supporting cast. The comparison is even more apt since they sideline said MC for a stretch to focus on the kick-ass ladies. Jacob's best friend Alice is particularly awesome, and my new favorite YA heroine by a wide margin. Also this is probably the first book since Charolette's Web that made me concerned for the well-being of a spider, so there's that too :) 5 stars!

X-Files 101

This is great...if you've never watched the show and want to get caught up on nine seasons in four hours. For fans of the show it's extremely remedail, and that got annoying very quickly. I realize they didn't want to scare away novices but honestly how many people who didn't watch the show were going to buy this? It also reeks of Carter's wooden writing. CC deserves all the credit for creating the show but writing was never his strong suit. That said, it's always nice to have Mulder, Scully, and the rest of the gang back in any capacity, the story was fine, and the voice acting is great! (Though seriously, where was Nicholas Lea? and if they couldn't get him they should have left Krycek out of this.)

another home run for Gibson

Gibson expertly skewers all the tropes of the fantasy genre in a smart, hilarious adventure. The ever-dependable Jeffery Kafer nails the narration. A delight from start to finish.
