Historia
Winter was supposed to be a time for Ard to relax and train; instead, he finds himself repairing a ruined city. The battle at Faylin has made waves, and people are starting to have expectations for Ard and, more importantly, for Gwen. The Elder Trial is set, and Ard heads back into the den of vipers that is the capital. While his mother prepares to become an Elder and take over House Aldis, Ard is plotting and planning to ensure he doesn't get caught up in Carmilla's machinations this time around.

Great story, but the narration makes it come alive
Revisado: 12-12-24
It’s a niche genre, and not for everyone, but that doesn’t mean these books are, or should be trashy. This is a story that has real feeling characters in an unreal journey. Yes he’s OP and the whole world is something we don’t expect here, but that’s the point. It’s fantasy. It’s fun.
But there are other good stories and other good storytellers. The narration puts this one over the top. It feels like they understand these characters and the story in a way that they don’t always do. Always a pleasure to see a new Ard’s Oath book drop. I hope this story goes in a nice long journey. Sentar is a 6-book series guy I think but maybe he’ll break his own mold and go longer. I’d read 20 of these

Historia
Minalan the Spellmonger has a problem: Mycin Amana, the undead consort of Korbal the Necromancer, is not only occupying one of the largest castles in the kingdom; she’s also occupying the recently-dead body of his former lover, rapist, and mother of his children, Isily of Greenflower. As the crises in the heart of the kingdom grows, Minalan is tasked to force the so-called Witch Queen of Darkfaller from her new stronghold using any means necessary. Unfortunately, the castle belongs to his rival in the royal court and future monarch Prince Tavard, whose ideas are doomed to failure.

Mancour is crating a really interesting world and you can see he has woven themes in with the intention that they will emerge later. Always interesting to see how he spins some more chaos into this world and how Min is going to endure it.

Historia
The goblin invasion is on...and a wizard's work is never done! After facing a hopeless siege, an implacable foe, and an impossible escape, you would think that Minalan the Spellmonger would be able to rest - but the armies of the undead goblin shaman Shereul (known as the Dead God to his human victims) are rolling over the Western reaches of the rustic Duchy of Alshar and is headed toward the heart of the Duchy of Castal. Thousands are fleeing for their lives as hordes of goblins pour out of Boval Vale and devastate the rugged fiefs of the Alshari Wilderlands.

A great follow-up to Spellmonger
Revisado: 03-16-19
Spellmonger set up a properly epic conflict, and introduced several characters in such a way that you could feel that they would be with you for a while. Warmage make it clear that this is no trilogy... the reader (listener) is in for a long journey, where excitement and intrigue are interspersed with personal moments in the life of Minalin, the Spellmonger, that show a powerful and competent magician who yet remains a very ordinary person with flaws and doubts, joys and misadventures. Terry Mancour seems ready to take this series out for several more books-ten or more I would guess, and yet each book has its own discrete plot line that leaves you resolved on one hand and yearning for more on the other.
John Lee is excellent as narrator. He is expressive and involved in the story. He sounds like he has read and understood the books before he records, which is not always the case. I would hope that they delay production of a future audiobook to suit his schedule rather than rush one out with another narrator. He IS the voice of Minalin now and forever.
So, if you want one book to read and put down, this isn’t the one. If you want to jump in to a new and interesting world and take a long and involved journey, then go get book 1: Spellmonger and see how long it takes until you’re done with book 8 and waiting impatiently for Book 9 which releases on 3/19.

Historia
Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth. They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hardpressed to survive, much less win.

Hearne ran out of steam
Revisado: 05-13-18
The critiques of this book, while often a lot harsher than I would be, have a solid point: this book feels like an afterthought. Either the author felt like he had painted himself into a corner with the previous books in the series, or he was eager to get on with his new series. Either way, this book felt like a rush effort to tie off loose ends and finish.
Some may fault the story for taking a fairly abrupt dark turn, though I think the signs were there that the series would have a not-so-happy ending for Atticus. I can’t say I like the way that it turned out, but it’s not bad in itself that the ending was bittersweet at best for Atticus. What was dissatisfying was the way the story was told, particularly the pace at which characters reversed course in order to line up for the ending. Because everyone changed course so fast, you feel whipsawed and because so little foundation was laid for those turnarounds, you end up feeling cheated, rather than surprised and amazed.
This book ends an otherwise good series on a sour note. The author made bad choices here which make me question whether I want to get into his new series.

great story, well read
Revisado: 12-21-17
The Lies of Locke Lamora is a con-artist story set in a fantastic world where magic and alchemy hold sway. it's that, and much more. The characters really come to life, in part because of excellent narration and in part because of fine writing. this is the first of three books (so far) in the series, and it's off to a great start. My only disappointment was that some great characters are gone before you even even get the chance to know them.
