I think anyone familiar with the original trilogy would expect Haymitch’s backstory to be a tear jerker, and it was. And a gut punch, but hang through it. The Epilogue brings everything together beautifully.

I wasn’t sure about the narrator at first, but as I grew to know Haymitch, I couldn’t imagine any other voice ringing as true, not to mention his excellent treatment of the other characters. Outstanding performance!

And lastly, I don’t claim to speak for the author, but I left this work inspired by the timely theme of the absurdity of oligarchy, and refusal to accept its inevitability.

Annie Grace’s original This Naked Mind changed my relationship with alcohol forever, and I am confident putting in the work with this new book has nailed the coffin closed on my on-and-off-again vaping maladaptive coping mechanism.

This method works, and I do love the personal touch of both books being read by their authors. Unlike some authors who choose to do this, they both did a great job. 👏

There are several powerful metaphors in this book that break down the lies we accept into our subconscious that keep us enslaved to nicotine, making quitting not a grueling sacrifice, but a genuine pleasure and privilege.

Can’t thank Annie Grace and William Porter enough for the work they do; they are truly using their time in this world ti radically change lives for the better.

A unique call to an ethic of creative love

belle hooks, a black woman, just spoke directly this white man's heart in a way that no man or woman ever has. Growing up without the direct presence of a father, I never knew what good masculinity looked like. I now, for the first time in my life, in my late thirties, am beginning to understand, thanks to this book.

belle hooks' love for men, women, and children pours out of every word of this book, and comes through crystal clear, if not amplified, by the beautiful narration of Janina Edwards.

This book exposes the unimaginable depths of societal rot caused by millennia of Patriarchy, and calls for a new ethic of creative (instead of destructive) love and wholeness that can heal and bring us together. Having read this book, I will never again be able to not be on the journey of helping to bring this profound vision into reality.

This is a timely read, especially for any person of privilege who desires to lend that privilege for the twin causes that cannot be separated: peace and justice.

Peace without justice is slavery, and justice without peace is terror. Conservatives punch down, crippling the already weak, while liberals punch up, knocking down the rich. In this letter, Martin Luther King, Jr. outlines the unique birthright of the Christian: to not punch at all, but instead stand between the oppressed and the oppressor and claim with unmatched courage: "I will do no harm, but neither will you. Not on my watch."

Just finished this book, and it has already helped us rekindle the romance in our marriage of 17 years.

The main takeaways for me were to never take your relationship for granted, to allow ourselves to express our desire for each other in ways that would go against our values in daily life but are no violation in the context of our committed relationship, and that romance, like any other skill, takes deliberate practice.

The book is packed with other wisdom, and the stories from real couples help tremendously. Highly recommended!

Caotes' writing is beautiful, brilliant and painful, as always. I consider both of his books essential prerequisites to informed discussions on race in America.

Proffessing Christians (like myself) must realize that our brother has something against us, and so we must leave our gift at the altar, make amends with our brother, and only then can we truly return and authentically worship God.

Our brother is Americans of color, and our sin is over two centuries of racial terror. Until we admit our guilt and face the reality of our sin, instead of proudly lumbering forward like a stubborn donkey, how can we possibly expect the blessing of the God who resists the proud but gives grace to the humble?

We cannot, and we will continue to flounder as a nation until we repent, like Germany did. Will we be healed? Then, let us confess our sins to one another and stop lying, pretending that we have no sin.

Great work on THE most important Christian topic

The Church, especially the American Church must recover the hostorical and Biblical practice of the Presence of God.

We are living as functional athiests in this world, as sheep who cannot hear their Shephard's voice, and so are Lords of our own lives, led not by the Spirit, but by our own broken wills . We have tossed aside the living and active relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ - being and doing only that which we see and hear the Father doing just as He did - that we were made for, in favor of a dead traditionalism.

This is the same traditionalism that seeks the kingdom through law rather than love and grace, that throws stones at, rather than pouring out love on, broken sinners, that put people in power who create policies that crush the poor and oppressed in the name of cowardly fear, and that sent Christ Himself to the Cross.

Learning to hear and obey the Holy Spirit by constantly making ourselves aware of His real and abiding - but gentle and loving - voice, is what produces the fruit of a Christianity that actually looks like the profundly beautful kingdom of God, and not just another ugly version of the violent, tribal, hateful and destructive kingdom of the world.

This book gives practical advice on developing tbis kind - the only real kind - of relationship with God. If you are a Christian, and you feel confused, directionless, that God is silent, then read this book.
