I don't know that those books could get any better. but I thought that about the last one.

I was sad in the beginning to see the Bobiverse fracture, but that's just where he wants you. Just so good.

This book was a great conceptual overview of calculus for me, but also an amazing help in connecting all the parts of calculus together and with all it explains.

The world just keeps getting bigger and bigger, but somehow it doesn't get bogged down. It's fun to try to guess what's going to happen, because I'm always wrong, and it's always so much better than I imagined. Just so good.

What is network marketing?

He talked about ideal lives and reasons you should start a business. He said network marketing is a good place to start your business education, but I don't think he ever really explained what network marketing is or gave any examples. His wife did, with the party planning, but that didn't give a lot of detail either. You can make a traditional party planning business too.

I love that he focusses on educating yourself and treat everything as a learning experience. The quadrants give a common language to talk from, though I don't think it's sustainable to say everyone should be in the B quadrant.

I like his definition of wealth as how long you could live off of what you have if you stopped working now.

I love the idea of democratizing business so everyone has their share in running and earning from the business.

Those and more talked about in the book are great, but unsubstantiated by any detail to hold onto at the end of the book. You'll have to go elsewhere for that I assume.

He hit on a lot thoughts. It's like he went to a book store and took his favorite quotes from business and artificial intelligence books, wrote some comments, and called it good. I think the take away is to build new things, but don't forget that you need other things too.

It's not bad, just nothing amazing.

I love the core ideas, maybe not applications

I mostly agree with the ideas. I suspect that if I try them they will work just fine. I don't understand the worry about timers and time out. Maybe they can be used as crutches for real communication.

Ultimately, I love and live by the idea that my kids are full people and that I get to respectfully facilitate their adjustment to life. I just think that maybe this book goes a little past those core principles and offers only one version of applications. There may be many more ways to apply the core principles in this book without doing exactly what she says applications wise. So, maybe compare you parenting to the core principles and don't worry if you don't do it exactly the way she does. If your struggling though, it doesn't hurt to try it her way I guess.

I think maybe we should build a statue of responsability as a companion to the statue of liberty. This book is inspiring, and it's ideas make sense.

Mostly Good

The book is entertaining and mostly accurate. The chapter on the statin drug class is a little weird, but he has some good points.

The author describes how upset he is over getting a letter that he should take a statin drug based on his medical history. He says it's because of a simple "cerebral vascular accident". It's a little misleading to use this medical jargon which actually describes a stroke. He literally had a stroke, at least according to the book. Statins are very good at decreasing the risk of stroke for most people who have had a stroke before. The evidence seems to suggest that this is regardless of cholesterol levels or heart disease status.

He goes on about primary prevention of HEART disease for healthy people, but he was recommended a statin for STROKE prevention after having a STROKE. He's either intentionally or ignorantly missing the point.

He conflates the lipid hypothesis with the evidence for statins as well. These are separate ideas. The lipid hypothesis is easy to hate on because it's based largely on cultural ideas and actually has little clinical basis. Statins actually have a great deal of evidence that they are very useful for very specific people. It is complicated who that is exactly. You'd have to consult your doctor to see if you would, and they are not useful for everyone.

I get that statins are fun and popular to talk about, but I really think this chapter had a lot more potential, or at least could have been replaced with a more interesting and accurate chapter about something else.
