Historia
Dragons are common in the backwater kingdom of Bellemontagne, coming in sizes from mouse-like vermin all the way up to castle-smashing monsters. Gaius Aurelius Constantine Heliogabalus Thrax (who would much rather people call him Robert) has recently inherited his deceased dad’s job as a dragon catcher/exterminator, a career he detests with all his heart in part because he likes dragons, feeling a kinship with them, but mainly because his dream has always been the impossible one of transcending his humble origin to someday become a prince’s valet.

unusual
Revisado: 09-18-24
When I started to listen to this book, I almost stopped by Chapter 2. The story and the narration seemed childish and it did not capture my mood or attention. But it is rare that I leave a story unfinished so I persevered and was so glad I did. awmbedded in this fairly simple story line is a wonderful tale of self discovery for the three main characters. They grow up through the difficulties they encounter. And you grow to really like them.

When is the next in this series??
Revisado: 08-05-24
Maybe it's just that Zara Ramm does both nations, but this series has the same wonderful atmosphere as Jodi Taylor's time books. I love them both. I cannot wait for the sequel!

The back story
Revisado: 10-15-22
The story got off to a slow start, but once it got rolling there was action to satisfy. it also sets the stage for the books to come and what's the appetite for more.
I'm not sure yet if this series is quite up to par with past David Weber series, but I bieve I'll try the next book in the series.

so nice to find a narrator who pronounces the names of places in Paris correctly!
At first, I thought this might be too simplistic a story. but as it unrolled, the author revealed a wonderful mastery or connecting all the separate lines and characters. she kept me guessing the exact ending.

enjoyed but. . .
Revisado: 10-12-21
This is a good start to a new space opera series. But it took some time to get used to the reader. at first I heard a quaver in his voice. After I got into the story more, I didn't notice it as much. Also, the volume was annoyingly uneven. I couldn't seem to regulate the sound do that I could catch the lower volume parts without having the volume too high for other parts.
There was some good revealing of characters' backstories which drew me in. I think I'll probably want to continue this series to find out what happens with the characters as the war develops but I wish this wad R.C. Bray reading.

A good little romance
Revisado: 07-01-21
I almost stopped listening because I found tge narrator irritating. Her voice was OK, but she lacked giving the characters enough difference in voice, timing, or inflection. I also thought I heard a lisp.
But then as I immersed more in the story, my irritation fell to the background and I enjoyed the story.

Pure Fantasy and Fun
Revisado: 06-23-21
For the first few chapters, I struggled with the story. It seemed too fanciful and too young. But then something caught me and swept me into the story. From then on it was pure fantasy and fun. I loved Nevermore and all its varied citizens. I think that was largely due to the narrator who made each character come alive with voice, speech rhythms, and real acting. Even though the end was never really in question there were some twists and surprises along the way.
