Historia
Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Goggins does it again!
Revisado: 01-05-23
In Goggins’ 2nd audio is podcast/audiobook hit me in a deep place. If you are looking to level up and find another gear within yourself to accomplish your goals, Never Finished is just want you need. As a successful author and entrepreneur I was able to take away more than just the one or two nuggets in most Non-fiction books. I found myself using the notes feature frequently in Audible to mark items. Most 2nd books in the self-help / personal improvement genre just regurgitate the 1st book in a different way. But Goggins’ journey was different, so the book is different. But don’t worry he still smacks you in the mouth wit his own unique style of narrating that he looks to inspire only himself, but we as readers get inspired along the way. I’ve worked out with him once and he tried to kill all of us. I was the oldest guy in the group (52) but after Can’t Hurt Me, there was no way I was going to let him hear me ring the quit bell. 6 miles, 600 push-ups and 1200 jumping jacks later, I was still standing. I had never run 6 miles before, and I certainly never did 1200 jumping jacks but there is something about Goggins that makes you want to find another gear that you didn’t know you have. Listen to this book and I’m sure you will find that gear.

Boys life in the 70’s captured perfectly!
Revisado: 11-27-22
Being Brothers is more than just entertaining, it’s a realistic flashback to childhood in the world before the Internet, video games, social media, and when phones were still attached to the wall in your kitchen. DeLucia’s novel is a story within a story as middle-aged writer Mark reads his screenplay that he has to send to a high-powered agent before noon to make his filmmaking dreams come true. The beginning of the story takes us through what a writer's day is like. As a writer, I can concur with the realism of our pre-writing rituals, which can be no different than the rituals of baseball players adjusting their batting glove velcro straps, uniform, batting helmet, and bat waggles before each pitch. DeLucia captures that part of the writer’s life as he obsesses over his script that he is on the clock to deliver. He re-reads it one more time we are taken into the story of Jackimo “Jackie” Amato, a 12-year-old in the Bronx just off Tremont Street. Playing Baseball, hanging out with the neighborhood kids, bike riding, baseball cards, stickball, and turning red when the subject of girls came up were all a big part of a boy’s life in the 1970’s. DeLucia captures this world perfectly, and I found myself laughing out loud in the car at the one-liners, the antics, and the conversations that our parents didn’t hear and the sense that what happens out in the street says there and we didn’t tell our parents when something was brewing. We relied on our wits, our friends, and sometimes our feet when we had to get out of trouble. DeLucia, without spelling everything out, paints a picture of this world that is authentic. The rivalry between Jackie and his older brother Sal Jr. is well played out, and we are along for the ride as Jackie manages life in school, on the streets, and on the ball field, which for a 12-year-old was everything. It’s a delightful coming-of-age story that is packed with action but also emotion, as the strict but loving Amato parents reminded me of my own. It’s a fun, light listen, narrated by the author, Bronx accents included, that will have you smiling and thinking of those days of innocence. Being Brothers is a pure delight and the perfect immersion into a time when life was simple.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Change your mind, change your life
Revisado: 12-25-18
I love the audiobook / podcast format. Listening to Adam interview David was an incredible experience and a great format for biopics. Even if you heard the Joe Rogan podcasts with David, there is much more to learn. There is so much depth to this book and it's not a "feel good" book, it's a "feel horrible, so you can feel good" book. I'm excited about the audiobook because it is truly for everyone. If you are not an ultramarathoner, I'm not, find what your intensity exercise is. Maybe it is programming and breaking down code and building objects, maybe it is cooking and making the same sauce, over and over again until you perfect it. Maybe you're a musician, a carpenter, an entrepreneur, a mom, a coach, a whatever. Do the reps, do the work, identify your demons, and find the exercise that helps you bring them right in front of you. Face them, defeat them, and then find peace in that. I also love David's perspective on failure. We will fail thousands of times in our lives. I lost everything I had after 9/11. We raised money for my tech startup 8/31/2001. It was just enough to get us through September and October until contracts on our app were signed. But 11 days later the universe changed. Those were dark days, and it took me until May 2005 to get out of debt. In January 2002, I got up off my ass, stopped feeling sorry for myself and built another company. So many failures and successes since then, I wish I had David's wisdom then, I would have cycled through it so much faster. If you are a success, listen to this book, if you are a failure, listen to this book, if you are not doing anything, not taking any risks, you especially should listen to this book. And if you just want to be entertained and you're happy with your life, listen to this book, it's really entertaining. Adam does a great job reading and asking David some in-depth questions to get to the heart of some of the pain and trauma he went through. David doesn't hold back, he is vulnerable, real, and raw. You will love it.

Entertaining and Informative

Professor Ravina did an amazing job. The wealth of diverse knowledge of history, culture, economics, and philosophical explanations was awesome. I was particularly amazed by is precise and profoundly simplistic explanations of high Buddhist concepts and how they integrate into the thoughts, words and culture of the Japanese people. Being formally trained in Zen and Tibetan Buddhism Professor Ravina's grasp and ability to explain concepts of all kinds is a gift. As someone who has been fascinated with Japan and competes in its national sport of Judo it was so great to get the deep dive into the past, present and future of Japan. It is a great primer if you are making a trip to Japan. I'm very excited about being able to talk about history and cultural icons with my Japanese friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor incredible job and you had me laughing many times. Going to listen to it agin before my trip to Japan next year.
