Historia
March 1917 tells the story of the Russian Revolution itself, during which not only does the Imperial government melt in the face of the mob, but the leaders of the opposition prove utterly incapable of controlling the course of events. The absorbing narrative tells the stories of more than fifty characters during the days when the Russian Empire begins to crumble. The anti-Tsarist bourgeois opposition, horrified by the violence, scrambles to declare that it is provisionally taking power, while socialists immediately create a Soviet alternative to undermine it.

Interesting story, horrible delivery
Revisado: 04-13-25
if you like the intensity and detail of Solzhenitsyn, and I do, this will not disappoint. But the performance is so bad it’s almost unlistenable. Sorry, but that’s the truth.

A classic of classics performed well
Revisado: 04-13-25
CS Lewis' incomparable tale of Narnia is well performed by various actors, some better than others, but all do a very good job handling this classic tale.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

don’t read at your own peril
Revisado: 04-13-25
This story was impeccably researched and was told with the authority of somebody who knew their stuff.
But it was so depressing. I had to put it down at Times and pick it up later because the reality of nuclear war is just too damn depressing. I didn’t realize that nuclear war would be the absolute end of civilization. It’s something that everyone should be aware of.
The delivery was slightly on the droll side, but that was probably on purpose not to be overly dramatic because the story itself is so freaking dramatic. It didn’t need any help I suppose.

Historia
From the Bible to Benjamin Franklin, from the cuneiform tablets of the ancient Sumerians to the dinner tables of modern bistros, wines have always been a part of civilization, culture, and history. Every country in the world has a special relationship with wine and takes a unique approach to the making, serving, and enjoying of it. Wine is an expression of the hopes, dreams, and cultures of the people who make it, so what better way to learn about the countries of the world than by learning about their wines?

Not just a history of wine, but history itself.
Revisado: 04-13-25
I downloaded this thinking it might be of some interest on a long flight across the country to keep me occupied. But it way exceeded my expectations :-).
A nice overview of the history of wine, but masterly woven into the story is the history of civilization and how wine played apart.
