RE: Relatable
Revisado: 09-24-24
This is a relatable piece in that things are not always what they seem and things change, not unlike life. I will say that it seems to have dragged out a little bit longer than it needed to, and I caught myself, wondering how much longer until the story was gonna provide resolution. The narrator is amazing, as she is every time, I’ve listened to a book. She has been a part of, and this author consistently provides quality stories. This one has a lot of back-and-forth, and indecisiveness that ultimately became a little bit frustrating, not unlike life.

RE: She is Woman….
Revisado: 09-03-24
First, these are two of my favorite narrators. Second, wow, just wow. This story brought up a variety of emotions, for a variety of reasons. This one is a domestic thriller that includes love, fear, kink, passion, deceit, smut, and let’s be real—narcissism and sociopathy. And to be clear, I devoured it b/c of the writing style, unique plots, characters that are easy to hate and love at different times, and storyline.

RE: House of Glass Indeed
Revisado: 08-31-24
It is not too often that my heart rate elevates for several consecutive chapters…this story has that effect. There are times when too much detail is included, seeming less than essential to the blooming saga. Nothing is quite as it seems, with relatable characters and the vivid imagery and emotional responses. The audiobook is done well, with emphasis and emotion.

RE: Not Exactly Believable, but Close
Revisado: 08-29-24
So this story has elements that are not exactly believable, or likely, though time with any narcissist tends to enlighten those around her about the absurd nature of exploits, so, maybe it is not that far from truth. Still, it is pretty well written. I will say this: the narrator(s) tone may have made it more difficult to embrace these characters. Really. The tone and inflection combined with the relatable elements keeps one from dismissing them altogether, though as the story wanes on, it is easier to relate to and/or feel empathy toward Scarlett. It most definitely sheds light on how damaging, intrusive, selfish, abusive, and diabolical a narcissistic mother can be in the lives of her children.

Historia
UrbanMyth: It was lauded as an alternative to the performative, show-your-best-self platforms—an anonymous discussion board grouped by zip code. The residents of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side disclosed it all, things they would never share with their friends or their spouses: secret bank accounts, steamy affairs, tidbits of juicy gossip. So when a “hacktivist” group breaks into the forum and exposes the real identity of each poster, the repercussions echo down Park Avenue with a force that none could have anticipated.

RE: Salacious Surprises
Revisado: 08-24-24
A review crossed this with Big Little Lies and Gossip Girl…spot-on. If you’ve ever had to navigate a toxic social hierarchy, one that requires you drink the bitter, judgmental, opportunistic koolaid, you’ll spot familiar facades and skewed priorities, all hyperfocused on the bullied, less fortunate, and atypical right their wrongs and living their dreams through their children. This piece is organized well, has gossip, sex, and scandal, and moves steadily toward a somewhat satisfying conclusion. The narration is stellar, as is typical for Brittany Pressley pieces. This is my first time reading work by Lindsay Cameron, but will not be my last.

RE: A Solid Effort
Revisado: 06-07-24
This is not my first Dranfield title; I enjoy her Madison Harper series and follow it closely. She seems to have an affection for the misunderstood, less fortunate protagonists who find their way with integrity and determination, easy to root for and easy to forgive. And, she has a knack for writing antagonists who are extremely easy to loathe; this work is no exception. There are elements of the story that are a little farfetched, and there are parts that are maybe a little too convenient. That said, this one held my interest after several other titles have not recently. I was intrigued by how she wrote the therapists with the story. Having listened to the audiobook, the narrator does fairly well in remaining consistent in spite of unique inflections and voice for the various characters.

RE: A Sad, but Common Dynamic
Revisado: 05-03-24
Lovering quotes the Indigo Girls, so, I was drawn in instantly. Billie and Cassie are relatable, both possessing elements all too common to friendships as life happens and people evolve, or not. THE incident is a little out there, honestly, but the fabric Lovering weaves with these ladies’ stories is beautiful, complicated, frustrating, annoying, and tangible, and the story’s conclusion offers welcome relief, seeing them empowered, enlightened, and resigned to truths both have denied for years. RE: Intense
Revisado: 04-28-24
First, there is a DV/SA trigger warning for this one. Written in first person, this story starts out with a forbidden connotation and a host of relatable characters. The author draws you in with probably universally relatable concerns and revelations; the narrator does an amazing job to the point that it is easy to forget she is not simply sharing her story. There is a very human element to these characters, and ultimately a desire to know more about them, and even to know that they’re going to be ok, albeit forever changed. And as is typical with this author, there is plenty of female empowerment, even in the midst of vulnerable, insecure moments.

RE: A Story About Girl Power
Revisado: 04-25-24
Talk about some girl power—this one has it, in some empowering, clever, dangerous, and entertaining ways. To be honest at first I was unsure how I was going to feel about this story, and, it took a while to invest in the characters, which by the way Glass illustrates so vividly (and the narrators bring to life so well). Are there some farfetched elements? Yes, there are. Does the story get a little convoluted? Yep, it does. But the characters are easy to love, and root for, for the most part, and the bad guy/girl is a bit of a surprise. The story makes me want to read more of Glass’ work, and that seems to be a pretty good sign, and, I wouldn’t mind running into these girls club members again.

The overall uncertainty
Revisado: 04-22-24
First, let me just say WOW. This story, in addition to being well-written, and steadily paved with a plethora of colorful, exquisitely descriptive words, invites readers to contemplate just how well they know themselves and those around them, and how well they understand the motives and intentions around and within them. I picked this up when I saw it reviewed, and put it down when I finished it curious, surprised, emotionally spent, and a little in awe.
