Historia
Saoirse Sorkova survives on lies. As a soldier-in-training at the most prestigious barracks in the kingdom, she lies about being a siren to avoid execution. At night, working as an assassin for a dangerous group of mercenaries, Saoirse lies about her true identity. And to her family, Saoirse tells the biggest lie of all: that she can control her siren powers and doesn’t struggle constantly against an impulse to kill.

Great (and dark!) ya read
Revisado: 07-22-24
This was a refreshing listen after so many ya/na with teen fmc’s who “aren’t like the other girls.” The main character is morally grey and doesn’t feel bad about it. She’s clever, strong, and cares deeply for her family. The audio book was awesome! Fantastic narration.

Historia
When a trip into the forest to collect a rare mushroom goes horribly wrong, I find myself falling through a fairy portal and straight into the arms of the Unseelie Fae prince. The dangerously unhinged and handsome Unseelie Fae prince. What could be more horrible than that? He thinks I'm an assassin sent by the humans to kill him, not a biologist. Determined to kill me first and rid himself of the human he has unwillingly grown obsessed with, yet also needing to entertain his people, the villain challenges me to three deadly trials.

I’m glad I didn’t pay for this
Revisado: 02-03-24
Maybe this book gets better but I only made it through chapter 4 when the “I’m a scientist and I say science words” fmc blushes at a friend’s swearing (“I’m a scientist not a sailor”) and is devastated, not pissed off, about a missed job opportunity that (illegally) passed her up because of her age and marital status. If you’re looking for a clever romantasy, this isn’t it.

Historia
Marra never wanted to be a hero. As the shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter, she escaped the traditional fate of princesses, to be married away for the sake of an uncaring throne. But her sister wasn’t so fortunate—and after years of silence, Marra is done watching her suffer at the hands of a powerful and abusive prince. Seeking help for her rescue mission, Marra is offered the tools she needs, but only if she can complete three seemingly impossible tasks:

Perfect cozy fantasy adventure
Revisado: 06-16-23
This story is so unexpectedly delightful. The characters are thoughtfully crafted and beautifully flawed, the plot turns are exciting and unexpected, and the narration is impressive! (So many distinct character voices) I haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a very long time.
