Historia
With this, his first collection of stories, Raymond Carver breathed new life into the American short story and instantly became both the recognized master of the form and one of our best-loved fiction writers. Carver shows us the humor and tragedy that dwell in the hearts of ordinary people; his stories are the classics of our time.

Wonderful
Revisado: 08-02-23
Carver is a genius, and it's a shame he often goes underappreciated.
These stories are simple and have a very real, visceral quality to them. He doesn't waste words.
Also, it's worth mentioning that enjoyed the performance quite a lot. I understand some other reviewers didn't, but I wanted to provide a counter weight.

Historia
In his final novel - which he considered his most important - Aldous Huxley transports us to the remote Pacific island of Pala, where an ideal society has flourished for 120 years. Inevitably, this island of bliss attracts the envy and enmity of the surrounding world. A conspiracy is underway to take over Pala, and events are set in motion when an agent of the conspirators, a newspaperman named Faranby, is shipwrecked there. What Faranby doesn't expect is how his time with the people of Pala will revolutionize all his values and - to his amazement - give him hope.

Incredibly important
Revisado: 08-17-20
Huxley wrote this nearly 60 years ago yet it reads as if it were published yesterday. We could all use more "attention" in our lives.
Also, a note on Simon Vance's reading: one the best professional readers out there. From books on Audible to articles on Audm, I am always delighted to learn he is narrating my next listen.

While on a fishing trip two men discover the ruins of an old house perched on the very edge of a cliff. In the ruins they discover an old manuscript that seems to suggest the house was once involved in something super natural, and horrific.

Amazing to see what influenced Lovecraft
Revisado: 01-08-20
Sure, it doesn't stand up to the standards of modern writing or storytelling, but this is still a fascinating early tale of cosmic horror that gives the reader some new context with which to read Lovecraft and his contemporary heirs.

Historia
Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy - it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he's assigned, he'll be in violation of Catch-22.

Incredible narration
Revisado: 10-31-19
I'm frequently impressed by many of the audiobook performances I've heard, but this stands alone. The narrative and characters are captured in such a way that makes this audiobook stand alone as a work of art and not just a substitute for reading the actual text.

Historia
The shift toward automation is about to create a tsunami of unemployment. Not in the distant future - now. One recent estimate predicts 13 million American workers will lose their jobs within the next seven years - jobs that won't be replaced. In a future marked by restlessness and chronic unemployment, what will happen to American society? In The War on Normal People, Andrew Yang paints a dire portrait of the American economy. Rapidly advancing technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation software are making millions of Americans' livelihoods irrelevant.

Authentic, well-meaning, and determined. Though this book can be bleak at times, it is an astonishing call to action that will continue to resonate for years and decades to come.

Tackling some of humanity’s oldest questions along with new quandaries only he could imagine, these stories will change the way you think, feel, and see the world. Remarkable
Revisado: 07-28-19
This collection contains some of the best short stories I gave ever read. Ted Chiang takes popular and interesting concepts in metaphysics, moral theory, and theoretical physics to create speculative fiction that delivers on every level. Some of the shorter stories are merely Chiang playing with a concept, which present interesting thought experiments, but the longer pieces, especially the final story, are truly dynamic, thought-provoking, and may even have a moral impact on the reader. They did for me.
