Historia
When Ellen Carr abandons grey, dreary London to become housekeeper at an experimental school in Austria, she soon knows she's found her calling. Swept into an idyllic world of mountains, music, eccentric teachers and wayward children, Ellen brings order and joy to all around her. But it's the handsome, mysterious gardener, Marek, who intrigues her - Marek, who has a dangerous secret. As Hitler's troops march across Europe, Ellen finds she has promises to keep, even if it means sacrificing her future happiness.

The narrator was GREAT. I could listen to her all day. I was so excited to find this book because I have been a big fan of some other of Ever Ibbotson's books. A Company of Swans, which I think must be out of print, since I can't find an audiobook version anywhere, is one of my favorite books. The Countess Below Stairs may have suffered a similar fate as I can't find a non-abridged version of that anywhere either. The Magic Flutes is wonderful and still available. In those books, Ibbotson creates characters that are quirky, unique, and quite funny in such a dry British way that the books are utterly charming. The heroines are always very sweet and innocent, the heroes, very powerful and strong men, but it is the secondary characters, with their silly, quirky, oddities that charmed me so much. I think she came close in this book, and there are definitely many great moments, but overall, I am disappointed - it is just not her best book, particularly the last four or five chapters, which seemed to be not very well thought out to me.

Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born. Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life.

Hilarious, fun, flirty and dirty - loved it

How the author managed to make a book both hilarious AND steamy is a wonder, but they really pulled it off. I found myself laughing out loud more than once and I basically had a smile on my face all day while I was listening to it. The narrator was FANTASTIC! I'm not sure I would have been nearly as charmed and entertained if I had read it - her comedic timing and expression was half the fun of this book!

Historia
As a chief stewardess on luxury superyachts, I massage egos, pamper the spoiled, and cater to the most outlandish desires of the rich and famous. I've never had a guest want something I can't give them. Until British businessman Hayden Wolf comes aboard - all sexy swagger and mysterious requests. But guests are strictly off limits and I've never broken a rule. Not even bent one. My family are depending on me and I can't lose my job. Only problem is Hayden Wolf is looking at me like I just changed his life. And he's touching me like he's about to change mine.

Excellent narration, predictable book

The end of this book became so sappy and corny I was actually laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. Too bad because there were moments of real promise that it would be a great book but . . . nah, not great.
