The heroine declined as the story went on

In the beginning the female lead is portrayed as confident, stoic, ambitious and accomplished! But as the story continues, she slowly morphs into this petulant and uncommunicative woman who’s prone to impatient and selfish behavior.

There’s also a slight flavor of "a man’s work is more important than a woman’s" towards the end of the story which did leave kind of a bad taste in my mouth.

I’ve enjoyed listening to Callie Hutton’s other books in this series — this one though was a frustrating flop for me.

I really enjoyed this short story. Nothing really to breakdown or add other than you should get it and listen... Ok? Ok!

Can’t get over the weird narrator...

The way the narrator spoke was so distracting I couldn’t even focus on the actual story. The pattern of his speech and the breaks in his sentences were almost robotic. Only time he sounded normal was when he read the characters quotes....
Because I just couldn’t get used to the way he was reading the story (and I tried), I did not even get half way through.

It’s a shame because the story itself could be good... Maybe they can have it re-recorded with a new reader?

...not great either. The main heroine comes across as very immature and unreasonably skittish. The way she’s written also seems very hypocritical. In one moment she can’t stand being with someone who’s a boring, rule abiding, analytical, stuffed shirt kind of guy, but in the next moment she freaks out about someone who steps up and defends the people he cares about, thinking him “crazy” and “psychotic” even though he’s not actively looking for violence, but is just being a protector when the need arises. She seems very wishy-washy and hard to relate to.

This was a terrible story and not worth the listen. Not even focusing on the bad characters created, horribly questionable morals and the overtly derogatory stance towards women; the way the story is written is almost painful to sit through. Everything is waaayyy over explained and the dialogue of the characters has them repeating themselves and each other constantly. We get it! This thing in the book happened, we read it, we don’t then need to re-read it over and over as each character re-explains what happened in full detail to whatever new character is involved.

Overall, I’m not sure what audience demographic the writer was trying to hook with this book, but to be labeled as a romance story? Mark missed. I’d suggest you either watch or rewatch Sons Of Anarchy instead. It’s pretty much a rip from their story anyways.
