Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Overall - worth reading, despite its flaws
Revisado: 09-02-24
The first half of this book was intriguing, unique, and captivating. By the second half, I felt that the character development had not progressed, the main characters were unlikeable, and the plot’s tragedy felt forced. The ending felt incomplete. While I had quite a few issues with the plot and characters, I felt that there were still worthwhile and redeeming messages about friendship, love, growing of age, growing up, and getting older. The real tragedy of this book was demonstrated in the realistic heartbreak of how best friends can grow apart.

Historia
At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep. But before long, he can’t deny it: Something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around him—even those he loves most—in whole new ways. The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade.

If I have to listen to the phrase “divided my consciousness” one more time….
Revisado: 11-11-23
The first 2/3 of this book was pretty captivating and intriguing, but the last third fell totally flat and became predictable, stereotypical, and monotonous. It felt like a derivative sci-fi, where the tedious use of numbers and measurements meant to sound intelligent begin to bore you. The ending felt rushed and cheesy. Overall, I thought it would be better and it was a disappointment.

A must read for every woman considering the pill…
Revisado: 04-14-23
Mike Gaskins has done some great research on the deeper topics relating to risks, history, and side effects of the pill. In this book, you will learn about the history that pharma industries intentionally hid/covered up, and risks you were never warned about. Disturbing, but in an insightful need-to-know way.

Historia
Despite having dirty-blonde hair and fair skin, Laura Chinn is mixed-race: the daughter of a Black father and a white mother, which on its own makes for some funny and insightful looks at identity. Laura’s parents were both Scientologists and nonconformists in myriad ways. They divorced early in Laura’s childhood, and she spent her teen years ping-ponging back and forth between Clearwater, Florida, and Los Angeles (with an extended stint in Tijuana for good measure).

Self-indulgent narcissistic dribble
Revisado: 08-23-22
If you want a memoir of a self-indulgent American millennial who has very little capacity for empathy for her dying brother and can think about very little besides her own skin, sexual adventures, and vanity - this is it. The book’s attempt to show spiritual enlightenment towards the end was meager and lacking. In the typical image-obsessed style from my degenerate generation, the only redeeming quality of this book is Laura’s honesty of her own personality defects.

Passionate, earthy, deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable contribution to modern fiction: a vibrant new perspective of female life in the age that shaped present day civilization and values.
If you like The Red Tent, try The Harlot by the Side of the Road, a recounting of some of the most startling and explicit writings from The Old Testament.

Not sure how I feel about this version
Revisado: 04-19-22
Not sure how I feel about this retelling of this story in the book of Genesis, where Dinah was in love with Shechem, instead of raped by him. It was alright but not superb.

Historia
Every day, we’re bombarded with pressure to be positive. From “good vibes only” and “life is good” memes, to endless advice, to “look on the bright side,” we’re constantly told that the key to happiness is silencing negativity wherever it crops up, in ourselves and in others. Even when faced with illness, loss, breakups, and other challenges, there’s little space for talking about our real feelings—and processing them so that we can feel better and move forward.

Fantastic, especially for people with chronic illness / disability
Revisado: 02-11-22
If you have a chronic illness / disability or care about someone who does, this book is a must read! The amount of toxic positivity our community faces on a DAILY basis from (usually well-meaning people) is enough to drive anyone insane with feelings of frustration, invalidation, isolation. This book won’t cure your illness / disability, BUT, it will validate your experience and make you feel more sane.

Historia
An eminent scientist and pioneer in the discovery of retroviruses challenges the widely accepted belief that HIV is the cause of AIDS. Duesberg argues that HIV is merely a harmless passenger virus that does not cause AIDS. Sure to spark intense debate, this provocative book offers an original and incisive critique of the rise and fall of HIV.

Incredibly well done.
Revisado: 06-05-18
I did not expect to agree with Duesbergs argument but he made a very strong case and many of the factors he cited I have seen repeat in many other areas of medicine, research and politics.
