Historia
It was once a land ravaged by war; minor city states, baronies and principates fought for supremacy; and then the rival cities of Tali and Quon formed an alliance, and so Quon Tali came into being. However, that was generations ago. That dynasty has collapsed, and the regional powers are now clawing at each other's throats once more.

Great that this exist
Revisado: 07-27-20
Love the Malazan series, so very happy that these three books exists and you get to learn some of the origins of the events and characters from the Book of the Fallen.
The writing is not in the same league as Erickson's, however, that said, I still thoroughly enjoyed these books.

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Worth the time
Revisado: 07-27-20
This is a fictional short story set in a historical context, if you take it as that it's an entertaining listen with a good narrator. Worth the time!

Good concept and narration derailed by poor writti
Revisado: 07-27-20
Some good narration but even that could not save this uninspired and basically unfunny collection. I'm a great fan of the obserd and unconventional and of British humour. This was more annoying than anything else, a good concept with, for me, no delivery. I did listen to the end hopeing that it would get better, it didnt unfortunately.

Historia
Bled dry by interminable warfare, infighting and bloody confrontations with Lord Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, the vast, sprawling Malazan empire simmers with discontent. Even its imperial legions yearn for some respite. For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his Bridgeburners and for Tattersail, sole surviving sorceress of the Second Legion, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities of Genabackis, still holds out - and Empress Lasseen's ambition knows no bounds.

Stunning!
Revisado: 07-09-20
For me this is the best fantasy series I have ever read, and I've read a lot! But so much more than a "just" a fantasy series..... Don't expect to be be spoon fed, this series makes you think! The scope and imagination of the story is truely mind blowing! The assessemnt of the human condition, politics, philosophy, economics, faith, religion etc is in turn poignant, humerous and often profound. The character development is awesome. I have prob been through this series 6 or 7 times in different formats (I travel alot), there is always something new to pick up on. The story line is never quite what you think it is going to be.
I have read reviews that critique the first book as discordan, jumping around and not easy to follow, but don't expect to get it all in the first book, the first 3-4 books run concurrently and themes and story lines only touched on initially are expanded throughout the rest of the series. I actually love the way Gardens of the Moon drops you in the middle of things and you have to just go with it.
The narration by both narrators is, for me, is great, there is a difference in style which is quite marked, but in a very short listening time I got used to the change and it didn't make much difference.
All in all just stunning fantasy!

Worth the time
Revisado: 08-16-15
I have seen other reviews of this series comment about the protracted nature of the storyline, I would agree that I found it so in places. However, I would still recommend the series. The storyline is engaging and has some great humour running through it and the delivery by Simon Vance is excellent.

A great listen!
Revisado: 01-08-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book was an enjoyable tale, the series starts off deceptively simply but layers complexity with each subsequent story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I really do like Vlad's character and the character development is well done throughout the series.
What does Bernard Setaro Clark bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The naration when i first started to listen i thought was pretty average but after listening for a short while you find that the naration is all pretty good throughout with good variation between characters and a style that sucks you in!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I really enjoyed the humour throughout this book and the full series and have let out a few belly laughs in otherwise quiet locations.
Any additional comments?
I would thoroughly recomend the book and the rest of the series
