Historia
In this groundbreaking book David Powlison undertakes an in-depth exploration of the roots of anger, moral judgment, and righteous response by looking in a surprising place: God's own anger. Powlison reminds us that God gets angry too. He sees things in this world that aren't right and he wants justice too. But God's anger doesn't devolve into manipulation or trying to control others to get his own way. Instead his anger is good and redemptive.

Unique content on anger
Revisado: 12-10-24
I like that this book did not recite common self-help viewpoints on anger. He speaks about anger, sounds counterintuitive initially, but backs it up with Scripture and explanation. He won me over to his way of thinking more than he lost me. My biggest critique is how repetitive it is. He says the same thing - not throughout the book - but back-to-back-to-back in different ways. Sometimes it helps drive the point home, but often it made me lose focus. I had to back the book up more than 10 times after realizing I hadn't been listening. Overall, this is one of the better books on anger.

Historia
In the bestselling The Signal and the Noise, Nate Silver showed how forecasting would define the age of Big Data. Now, in this timely and riveting new book, Silver investigates "The River," or those whose mastery of risk allows them to shape—and dominate—so much of modern life. These professional risk takers—poker players and hedge fund managers, crypto true-believers and blue-chip art collectors—can teach us much about navigating the uncertainty of the 21st century.

It's feels scatterbrained, but it is super thought-provoking. His thoughts are all centered around risk and the philosophy around risk. There's poker, Sam Bankman-Fried, existential threats, and more.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. Historia
"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

A challenging, life-giving book
Revisado: 08-25-23
My wife and I each took separate, big takeaways from this book. This is something Christians need to hear and - I bet - people who don't identify as Christians can still take a lot from it.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

I am glad I read this book, but it was not as advertised. I feel like 7/10 would be more appropriate than 3/5, but that's the scale I have to work with.

When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Amazing story. Astonishing writing
Revisado: 02-06-19
The story, if told by a dry narrator with simply facts, would be worth listening to. The narrator is great. The story is amazing. The best part of all is the way the story is written by such a self-aware author. Highly, highly recommend.
