Historia
Like The Last Temptation of Christ, Saint Francis is a fictionalized biography of a widely venerated Christian figure: Francis of Assisi, whose renunciation of his young man’s life of leisure and founding of a religious order dedicated to living in poverty and sharing the Gospels with all living things profoundly influence the ways in which Christians the world over worship and give service to their god even today.

Historia
Death is not waiting for us at the end of a long road. Death is always with us, in the marrow of every passing moment. She is the secret teacher hiding in plain sight, helping us to discover what matters most. Life and death are a package deal. They cannot be pulled apart, and we cannot truly live unless we are aware of death. The Five Invitations is an exhilarating meditation on the meaning of life and how maintaining an ever-present consciousness of death can bring us closer to our truest selves.

too bad
Revisado: 08-23-23
i've heard Frank speak and he is an brilliant brilliant man. Unfortunately someone got the idea that the whole book should be read in the same voice that frank that Frank does short public presentations. For me this has made this book absolutely impossible to listen to. The close whisper very triggering. Also it's impossible to listen to this is anything but a perfectly silent environment. can't drive or even walk and be able to listen to this horrible presentation.

Historia
For over 40 years, Carlos Castaneda’s The Teachings of Don Juan has inspired audiences to expand their world view beyond traditional Western forms. Originally published as Castaneda’s master’s thesis in anthropology, Teachings documents Castaneda’s supposed apprenticeship with a Yaqui Indian sorcerer, don Juan Matus. Dividing the work into two sections, Castaneda begins by describing don Juan’s philosophies, then continues with his own reflections.

perfect
Revisado: 04-10-23
this book is an essential chapter on the path of the seeker. the modern shamanistic movement probably would be the same if it hadn’t been for this book
the execution of the narrator is perfect. he will always be the voice of carlos castaneda for me.

Historia
Sometimes you slip through the cracks: unforeseen circumstances like an abrupt illness, the death of a loved one, a breakup, or a job loss can derail a life. These periods of dislocation can be lonely and unexpected. For May, her husband fell ill, her son stopped attending school, and her own medical issues led her to leave a demanding job. Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered. Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times.

sorely disappointed
Revisado: 02-05-22
i heard an interesting interview with the author and i was very impressed. sadly this contemporary woman’s view on the classic “dark night of the soul” was absolutely forgettable and i truly regret the purchase.
and the narrator should be reading children’s stories. very bad casting. made it even more unlistenable
ps can someone explain why the author feels the need to refer to her husband as “H”?

Historia
In this groundbreaking audiobook, neuropsychology professor Chris Niebauer explains how after decades of research on the brain, Western science may have inadvertently confirmed a fundamental tenet of Buddhism: anatta, or the doctrine of "no self". Niebauer shows how findings in neuropsychology suggest that our sense of self is actually an illusion created by the left side of the brain and that it exists in the same way a mirage in the middle of the desert exists: as a thought rather than a thing.

Historia
In 1558 the ancient stones of Kingsbridge Cathedral look down on a city torn apart by religious conflict. As power in England shifts precariously between Catholics and Protestants, high principles clash bloodily with friendship, loyalty, and love. Ned Willard wants nothing more than to marry Margery Fitzgerald. But when the lovers find themselves on opposing sides of the religious divide sweeping across the country, Ned goes to work for Princess Elizabeth. When she becomes queen, all Europe turns against England.

might be a much better story read by ones self. the narrator really unbearable. and the story is so complicated with so much detail as follett likes to include that it becomes difficult to follow.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

just gotta
Revisado: 04-02-21
i really loved the show and enjoyed the chess even more in this audible version but i gotta ask how is it no one in this entire process told the narrator that her character voices are just awful. if this is how men sound to women then i apologize for all of us.
