Thorough overview and history of EMDR
Revisado: 10-21-24
My therapist recommended this book to me prior to beginning our EMDR treatment and it definitely helped prepare me for our sessions. It’s a thoughtfully written overview of the treatment, with both patients and practitioners in mind. I especially enjoyed hearing all the different success stories of patients who used the different strategies mentioned throughout the book.

Lovely, Reaffirming, Poetic

The message and overarching strategy is clear and powerful in its simplicity, however it does feel redundant and overly serious at times. Very mindful, very demure.

Historia
An ambitious mother puts her art career on hold to stay at home with her newborn son, but the experience does not match her imagination. Two years later, she steps into the bathroom for a break from her toddler's demands, only to discover a dense patch of hair on the back of her neck. In the mirror, her canines suddenly look sharper than she remembers. Her husband, who travels for work five days a week, casually dismisses her fears from faraway hotel rooms.

Grotesquely Empathetic
Revisado: 05-20-24
I don’t usually read fiction, and only came upon this book because of a friend who, upon hearing my own reflections of motherhood, insisted I make an exception for this one. I’m glad I did. It was cathartic and surreal, with a tinge of insanity. Everything a new mother needs to hear but most likely won’t from civilized society.

Historia
"Everything would be fine if we lived in the same town/state/country" is the common reason many men and women give for a long-distance relationship not working out. Yes, distance can put an enormous strain on a relationship, but claiming that "distance" is the only reason a relationship didn't work out, or cannot work, is putting your hands over your ears and shouting "Land", because the truth is, it's too much to handle.

Written for College Students
Revisado: 01-03-23
A good effort, but given the wide variety of long distance relationships in the world, it’s annoyingly one-dimensional. If you’re anything other than a college student experiencing a LDR, find another book. To the author, while your personal experience lends useful anecdotes here and there, you do everyone a disservice by not including other voices in your book: military couples, couples who met online, couples with children, blended families, and polyamorous relationships, just to name a few. Representation matters, and unfortunately this whole book reads like a long blog article instead of a comprehensive guide. Good luck.

Drawing from ancestral knowledge, as well as her experience as an attorney and activist, Sherri Mitchell addresses some of the most crucial issues of our day—including indigenous land rights, environmental justice, and our collective human survival. Sharing the gifts she has received from the elders of her tribe, the Penobscot Nation, she asks us to look deeply into the illusions we have labeled as truth and which separate us from our higher mind and from one another.

A Poignant Glimpse Into Holistic Consciousness
Revisado: 11-02-22
As an American citizen of mixed heritage, and with only watered down notions of my ancestral cultures of origin, reading this book moved me deeply. The audacious poise of this author, sharing the wisdom of her own upbringing among native peoples in the face of repeated acts of violence against humanity, is nothing short of inspiring. I felt deep kinship with her upon hearing of her connection with the Earth, and as a vegan who is often ridiculed or alienated for taking a stand for the animals of this planet I felt vindicated to hear her take on industrial agriculture.
If you’re a westerner who has any desire to tap into ancient wisdom or to reconnect with that innate sense of community that is suppressed daily by the pressures of modern society, I urge you to read this book.

Neale asks God so many wonderful, thought-provoking questions, and the responses are even better. This is the dialogue I needed to hear. I’m so grateful to the author and everyone who made it possible. Excellent performances by all.
Just listening to this felt like a healing experience. I had to pause and process many times while listening because sometimes the revelations were too deep to just keep going. If you’re curious about God, if you’re mad at God, if you don’t believe in God, if you love God - whatever your relationship with God, this book provides a worthwhile perspective that can benefit anyone’s life. Give it a shot.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Raw. Intelligent. Witty AF. I learned so much reading this book. The author is wise and hilarious, compassionately harsh, and totally relatable. The insights and practical tools I got from this book are absolutely priceless. I recommend this book to anyone who wants personal growth without all the typical guru bullshit. This book is all value and no fluff. Must read!

Now tethered to nothing but their suitcases, each other, and their next exotic location, they've never looked back. From sky-high pyramids in Mexico to monkeys in Marrakech, this delightful, inspiring memoir is a romantic tale of derring-do for grown-ups and a road map for anyone who dreams of turning the idea of life abroad into a reality.

When I picked this book I was hoping to hear a story about a young family that embarked on a home-free journey, not an elderly couple with no dependents, but after getting over my initial disappointment I was pleased to learn about this lifestyle as an alternative to traditional retirement.
I thought the author did an excellent job of describing things in detail, sometimes to the point of boredom for my millennial attention span, but overall the story was unique and charming. It’s a book I would recommend to people who are either retired already and hating it, or those who are planning to and need some ideas and inspiration.

A fiction for those who despise fiction.
Revisado: 10-20-17
As someone who prefers reading non-fiction of the personal growth variety, The Alchemist was a welcome departure.
Concise, yet vivid in its imagery and profound in its spiritual lessons, this is one of those books that I will listen to again and again until I learn it by heart.
A story filled with adventure and wonder, aptly read by the talented Jeremy Irons (whom I grew up knowing as Scar from The Lion King).
I recommend this book to anyone who has a curiosity about life's bigger questions and anyone who craves a vacation. It's a fiction worth reading!

Historia
As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the "space between lives", which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss' family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
