Historia
Every so often a character so captures the hearts and imaginations of listeners that he seems to take on a life of his own long after the final chapter. For such a character, one book is not enough—listeners must know what happens next. Now Dean Koontz returns with the novel his fans have been demanding. With the emotional power and sheer storytelling artistry that are his trademarks, Koontz takes up once more the story of a unique young hero and an eccentric little town in a tale that is equal parts suspense and terror, adventure and mystery—and altogether irresistibly odd.

Never a dull moment with Odd Thomas
Revisado: 12-25-24
This one featured a particularly venomous evil whom oddly has to contend and I feared he might not succeed. Artfully written, beautifully performed. I loved it.

Historia
In a feat of virtuoso storytelling, Anne Rice unleashes Akasha, the queen of the damned, who has risen from a six-thousand-year sleep to let loose the powers of the night. Akasha has a marvelously devious plan to “save” mankind and destroy the vampire Lestat—in this extraordinarily sensual novel of the complex, erotic, electrifying world of the undead.

Distracting excerpts from a dead spouse...
Revisado: 12-27-18
Although I love the gifted writing of Ann Rice, who paints marvelously with words, I am increasingly distracted and annoyed by the insertion of excerpts of the work of her late husband Stan Rice at the beginning of each section. With no warning, we are subjected to bizarre imagery which as nothing whatever to do with the story in which we are engrossed, and which sounds as though it was written while on a hallucinogenic substance. A stark and jarring departure that causes one to attempt to reconcile these images with the narrative paid for, and to once again realize that you have once again, been hit with a literary slap in the face.
Would someone please edit these annoying and unnecessary visitations from a poor dead author out of this wonderful book?

Historia
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

I saw this book on sale and recognized the author's name as having had some fame years ago but had never read anything of his. The title too was vaguely familiar. So I thought I'd give it a listen. This was one of those books that you find yourself hoping will soon get better, but sadly never does.

Conduct most becoming.
Revisado: 08-16-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would most definitely recommend this book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Nathan Leathers of course. This guy is the new John Wayne. His manner of speaking and the way he carries out the actions forces upon him are an impressive example to which all our military aspire. Conduct most becoming.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, It was very difficult to put is down.
Any additional comments?
The perspective of a veteran southern US soldier in Iraq in this genre is genius.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

The struggle of good vs. evil in 1300s england.
Revisado: 12-03-14
What did you love best about World Without End?
The characters are wonderfully diverse and still so very believable. Once again, John Lee does such a fabulous job of portraying a large cast of men and women that he (the voice of the reader) simply fades away and the voices of the characters and the story take center stage.
What did you like best about this story?
There is a lot that happens in this story over a number of decades. Which allows us the longer view of the many and complex relationships portrayed. As we walk along with these people as the unseen observer, we share a history of sorts with them and one cannot help but to be drawn in and start to really care about them.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have to admit I did fell strongly about some of the wrongs committed against the characters I'd grown to like, and then smiled when the tide turned.
Any additional comments?
Unfortunately, this recording was taken from a set 30+ disks and I was frustrated to hear "End of Disk ##" in someone other than John Lee's voice, at regular intervals. These annoying interruptions should be edited out...

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Great story
Revisado: 09-27-14
If you could sum up Sycamore Row in three words, what would they be?
Money, Greed and Compromise
Did Michael Beck do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, although at first I was distracted by the southern drawl. But after a time I got used to it and the story took over.
Any additional comments?
I was disappointed by the ending, but in the end, I realize that it was probably the more believable ending.

Would you listen to The Pillars of the Earth again? Why?
I rarely listen to the same book more than once, but I'm pretty sure that I will find the time to listen to this one again.
Any additional comments?
This wonderful book is so enthralling that I simply could not put it down. John Lee's performance is so well done that his voice seems to fade to the background as your mind's eye paints the images being whispered in your ear.

Over the next six years, they became expert and well-traveled researchers, taught themselves German, hunted for clues in Germany, and constructed theories corrective of the history books, all in an effort to identify this sunken U-boat and its crew.

A well-told engaging true story
Revisado: 11-07-12
Would you listen to Shadow Divers again? Why?
I never read anything more than once but if that should ever change, Shadow Divers would make the list of the ones that I would rad again.
What other book might you compare Shadow Divers to and why?
I'd rather not compare this book with other mainly because I've read so few books in this genre
What does Michael Prichard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The voices of the characters were believable and varied from one another so much as to make one forget that only one person was reading.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me fear for those divers. I am a diver but I never go deeper than 120 ft
Any additional comments?
As a diver, I appreciated the technical detail and accuracy as well as the truthful portrayal of the people who do this type of diving.
