Historia
Jack Holmes is in love, but the man he loves never shares his bed. The other men Jack sleeps with never last long and he dallies with several women. Jack's friend, Will Wright, comes from old stock, has aspirations to be a writer, and like Jack works on the Northern Review, a staid cultural quarterly. Will is shy and lonely-and Jack introduces him to the beautiful, brittle young woman he will marry. Over the years Will discovers his sensuality and almost destroys his marriage in doing so.

Most unfortunate choice of narrator for a story with promise that fails to deliver.
Revisado: 02-15-23
First of all, I’m so sorry but the narrator Ken is horrific. The read is stilted and choppy af, and he literally just must have read this word by word off a giant font filling the screen because there is no consideration given to punctuation or sentence structure at all. I’m really surprised audible accepted this read; it’s truly abysmal. The story starts out great and is exceptionally witty throughout in the expected EW way. The end however, seems rushed and leaves something to be desired in my opinion. I would have enjoyed this book considerably more if I read it myself because the exceptionally poor narration came very close to ruining the entire work.

Historia
Originally published in 1982 as the first of Edmund White's trilogy of autobiographical novels, A Boy's Own Story became an instant classic for its pioneering portrayal of homosexuality. The audiobook's unnamed narrator, growing up during the 1950s, is beset by aloof parents, a cruel sister, and relentless mocking from his peers, compelling him to seek out works of art and literature as solace-and to uncover new relationships in the struggle to embrace his own sexuality.

Not the best
Revisado: 11-18-22
I have thoroughly enjoyed other Edmund White books I’ve read but this was a very unfortunate exception. Exceptionally boring and devoid of wit, one can’t help but despise this character. There is very little compelling the reader to appreciate this story as the narrator continues to relate every tale of his life like a sad, anemic version of holden caulfield with none of the charm or dynamism. I couldn’t make it to the end. The choice of narrator was unhelpful as well essentially relegating this to an extremely over long, whining and inelegant plodding journey that I was not able to finish. Hopefully the next book in this series is an improvement.
