Historia
A plan to destroy America, a hundred years in the making, is about to be unleashed. There is a powerful technique called the Overton Window that can shape our lives, our laws, and our future. It works by manipulating public perception so that ideas previously thought of as radical begin to seem acceptable over time. Move the Window and you change the debate. Change the debate and you change the country.

Awesome Book! Makes ya think.
Revisado: 03-10-21
Helped me to think of the way we are being nudged. Comparing where we are to the most outlandish best or the most outlandish worst... we’re somewhere in the middle, yet the middle moves one direction or the other. Which pole are we moving toward? It’s more clear to me.

Rivals Mein Kampf for Racism
Revisado: 09-29-20
I couldn’t finish it. I haven’t read anything so patently racist since I read Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler! Truth: I couldn’t finish that one either. I’m sorry but judging an entire race of people based on the color of their skin is racist! It is simply not accurate to assign a person’s level of racism based on whether they are white. According to Kendi if you’re white, you’re racist. Anti-racism (Kendi’s highest aspiration for all) can only be achieved through activism and self flagellation for being white. If you don’t hate your white race, you’re a racist. I hated this book and do not recommend it, unless you’re a white person looking for self accusation and blame because you’re white, or you’re a black person looking to justify feeling like a victim. His sweeping generalizations are skewed and pathological.

Historia
In Being Mortal, best-selling author Atul Gawande tackles the hardest challenge of his profession: how medicine can not only improve life but also the process of its ending. Medicine has triumphed in modern times, transforming birth, injury, and infectious disease from harrowing to manageable. But in the inevitable condition of aging and death, the goals of medicine seem too frequently to run counter to the interest of the human spirit.

Paradigm changing book!
Revisado: 06-30-20
Robert Petkoff did a phenomenal job of narrating this book. The literature was a perfect mix of historical, clinical and personal anecdotes delivered in a way that went straight into my heart. The plight of the aging and chronically ill population is a growing, expanding condition that every one of us will get to face both personally, and within our circle of family and friends. Everybody dies. Some of us die a piece at a time. A few of us get taken out of this life with one whack, but for most of us, it is a gradual dying. So the big question is how shall we make LIVING WHILE DYING the very best it can be? This book attempts to paint a picture of possibilities. It is hope-filled. Things can be better than they have been if we can honor each other’s humanity to the very end. I loved it!

Heartwarming story told by the perfect narrator
Revisado: 09-20-18
Such a fun and heartwarming story. I love how the people in Joey’s life support him. They see him. They see his circumstances, and they offer the best kind of support, making him feel like a real winner! The narrator/author is the perfect one to tell the story. His accent adds so much. I listened to it with my 10 year old granddaughter. We laughed and laughed. The imagery is incredible. Thank you for sharing this precious story with us.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

I laughed and cried, was furious and filled with joy as I listened. The story was masterfully told, unfolding in such a way as to keep the reader (listener) absolutely captivated from the first paragraph to the last. I love this book!!! It's probably my all time favorite. The narrators were fantastic.
