Affairs, stealing and lies
Revisado: 06-19-22
If you’ve read the books or seen the show.. you know the story. This isn’t anything groundbreaking or new. Instead of parents having affairs, the girls are now old enough to have affairs of their own. Basically, if you like the previous PLL stuff, you’ll like this. The characters did seem a bit changed, but most people change from age 16 to 31, so I give it a pass.
The narrator spoke slowly and I suggest increasing the speed.

Historia
At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

You know that friend..
Revisado: 07-21-20
Honestly, the book isn’t 5 stars but I’ve encountered enough antisemitism to believe people will downgrade to zero because the author is Jewish.
You know that friend who is gay, Jewish, neurotic and won’t have kids because of global warming? Sort of reminds you of a Jenny from the L word. Well... she’s of course an author, and she wrote a book!
It’s about her love life, the Holocaust, her grandparents. Exactly what you think she’d write.
It comes down to how you feel about that friend and if you’d want to read her book.
I enjoyed it. But I’m a liberal Jew. Mileage may very if you can’t relate to the author.

Revisado: 02-06-20
I usually hate memoirs, but I loved this book. You feel like you are in therapy sessions watching other people’s treatments. If you’ve ever seen In Treatment, it feels a lot like that. Great book!

Fun Detective Noir
Revisado: 01-23-20
I got this as a free book in exchange for a review. I get a bunch from the Reddit audiobooks thread but most are pretty bad and I just don’t bother writing reviews.
I found this book surprisingly fun. It has a lot of Los Angeles atmosphere and it’s very detective noir with great lines every other minute. “Just as useful as a butter knife in a slaughter house”. “She didn’t need ice, she was cool enough without it.” I’m telling you, every other minute, writing is awesome witty.
If you love down on their luck, alcoholic detectives with witty dialogue, this book will be a keeper. There’s also a fantasy element to it. But I think that’s an excuse for the detective to see everything in black and white. If this book has a bad review, it’s because the listener was hoping for a fantasy book and found this instead. But if you are looking for detective noir, it’s more than solid and the narration is perfect.

Laughably Bad
Revisado: 01-22-20
Here’s the problem. It’s a romance written by a man. There are 2 women in this book. One is confidently beautiful and the other, the bar made, is more subtly beautiful. He loves the subtly beautiful girl. That’s the entirety of their personalities. Every chapter mentions obvious beauty or subtle gorgeousness. It’s like he got a thesaurus out and just looked up those 2 words over and over. I think him loving the less obvious beauty shows his depth?
Yup, 1 dimensional characters. Plus the main character is also 1 dimensional. Which is unfortunate, because there’s zero passion when it comes to love scenes.
It’s a part one of a romance/war novel written by a man. So I’m assuming she’ll die in part 2. I wouldn’t waste your time and money on this.

Revisado: 01-21-20
It never really came together for me. I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator, but if you listen to the sample you can decide for yourself. Not worth a credit, but might be worth a daily deal.

Nice little cozy mystery. The detective is like-able, along with the other characters in the book. My favorite part is his nice relationship with his wife.

Consider poor old Colin Douglass, a terminally ill insurance agent who awakens from centuries in cryogenic freeze to find Earth is a devastated wasteland. Now, he’s being pursued by a homicidal interstellar tourist board, and calculating insurance dividends is as outdated as making stone axes. If you like the Bobiverse series...
Revisado: 12-18-19
The book reminded me of the We Are Bob series. Except, I think this one is better. It's a very smooth listen (not uneven, like many books I've listened to). If you like funny sci-fi, I highly recommend it. Narration was very good as well. Looking forward to listening to the sequel.

Very Anti-Semitic
Revisado: 11-15-19
She's very likeable. Unfortunately, there's quite a bit of hatred towards Israel and the Jewish population. Other than that, there's not really any story in this audiobook. Even though she's paralyzed, she's popular and a mean girl in high school which is a huge accomplishment for her. If you are a die-hard fan, you'll enjoy it. But if not, it's really not worth getting.
