Historia
On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest. Once, she was the Justice of Toren - a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy. Now, an act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with one fragile human body, unanswered questions, and a burning desire for vengeance.

Slow Burn. With Tea.
Revisado: 12-27-24
Yes, this book is slow, at the start. Yes, you might think you don’t initially like the characters. But what a delicious read, if you let it be that kind of book. This is one of my favorite series, and Adria Andoh is such a dynamic and charming reader, it’s amongst my favorite audiobooks as well.
And there’s tea.

Historia
Following the enormous success of 2004 bestseller and critics' favorite Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Susanna Clarke delivers a delicious collection of ten stories set in the same fairy-crossed world of 19th-century England. With Clarke's characteristic historical detail and diction, these dark, enchanting tales unfold in a slightly distorted version of our own world, where people are bedeviled by mischievous interventions from the fairies.

No one combines old and new so well as Susanna Clark. What a lovely bunch of “faery” tales, and a bracing dip back into the world of JSaMN

Historia
At the dawn of the nineteenth century, two very different magicians emerge to change England's history. In the year 1806, with the Napoleonic Wars raging on land and sea, most people believe magic to be long dead in England—until the reclusive Mr Norrell reveals his powers, and becomes a celebrity overnight. Soon, another practicing magician comes forth: the young, handsome, and daring Jonathan Strange. He becomes Norrell's student, and they join forces in the war against France. But Strange is increasingly drawn to the wildest, most perilous forms of magic.

Top Tier Book
Revisado: 11-30-24
I have not read JSaMN since not long after it came out, so this listen was very much like reading it for the first time, again. It’s such a great read and Mr Armitage only adds to the experience. A deliberate, and intricate story told with humor and beautiful language. Such world building! The lore! The magic!
I dare not attempt to summarize. But…Alternate history? England? Magic. Napoleon. Gothic tale. Lord Byron. Prophesy! Reason! Unreason! Faerie! A Raven King!
And I cannot speak highly enough of Richard Armitage’s narration. So distinct, so rich, so good.

Jason Isaacs is Fantastic
Revisado: 04-21-24
Maybe not my favorite Pratchett, but what a performance! The story is a little less than I anticipated, but it was still wonderful, still entertaining, and it was definitely elevated by the narrator.

Interesting, but I Hope It Gets Better
Revisado: 12-12-22
Intriguing story. Still feels a little too young? I’m not sure about the narrator, but that’s a very subjective criticism, so take it with a grain of salt. Though, the pronunciation of the the word “heretic” was more hirsute than I am used to. No regrets listening, looking forward to the rest.
