Historia
American journalist and author William L. Shirer was a war correspondent for six years in Nazi Germany, having a front-row seat to Hitler’s rise in influence and power. His most definitive work on the subject, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, is a riveting account of life in the tyrannical state, a country transformed by war and dictatorship. The author was originally commissioned to write The Rise and Fall of Adolf Hitler for a young adult audience. This account loses none of the immediacy of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich....

Shirer Clarity
Revisado: 07-05-20
Great to the point book that only William Shirer could write. Such are sorely missed today.

Historia
Ever since he became a Christian at the age of 40, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the complete Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor.

The read is smooth, deep and useful for contemplation.
Who was your favorite character and why?

Have you listened to any of David Suchet’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Better than his others.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It helps me to repent, obey and rejoice unto the Living God.
Any additional comments?
Sure, do not merely listen to the Word, do what it says.

Historia
One of the most dynamic eras in American history, the 1920s began with a watershed year that would set the tone for the century to follow. The Roaring Twenties is the only decade in American history with a widely applied nickname, and our collective fascination with this era continues. But how did this surge of innovation and cultural milestones emerge out of the ashes of World War I?

Liberal High Gloss Sheen
Revisado: 07-12-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Narration is professional.
What was most disappointing about Eric Burns’s story?
Mr Burn's writing has a very, preachy, liberal high gloss sheen buffed into the pages.
Which character – as performed by Christopher Lane – was your favorite?
na
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 1920?
For example, Margaret Sanger becomes Saint Sanger when Mr. Burn's picks up his quill. As Editor that nonsense would have been deleted and the bare facts about Ms. Sanger, or just to irritate her, Mrs. Sanger would have had no polish added.
Any additional comments?
Is it still worth the listen? Good question for which I don't have an answer.

Good Solid Facts
Revisado: 02-16-11
Shirer's work shines bright and strong.
From his astute observations about the sexual perversion that always goes along with government corruption, framed around the facts as they happened, this is one solid history book.
The audio version has only added to the quality of Shirer's work.

Historia
The Roman civil war has come to its conclusion - Pompey is dead, Egypt is firmly under the control of Cleopatra (with the help of Rome's legions), and for the first time in many years Julius Caesar has returned to Rome itself. Appointed by the Senate as dictator, the city abounds with rumors asserting that Caesar wishes to be made king - the first such that Rome has had in centuries. And that not all of his opposition has been crushed.

Excellent Narration and Book
Revisado: 06-18-10
The narrator makes books enjoyable to listen to, with The Great Divorce topping the chart. This book, its combination of history and storyline, mixed with the narration makes it one enjoyable listen.
