Historia
For any task you might want to do, there's a right way, a wrong way, and a way so monumentally complex, excessive, and inadvisable that no one would ever try it. How To is a guide to the third kind of approach. It's full of highly impractical advice for everything from landing a plane to digging a hole.

I thought his cartoons were funny. - this book took that joy away.
Revisado: 06-10-22
I think the authors cartoons are funny and enjoyable to decipher. Unfortunately his mind-meanderings are just not that interesting (or well edited). A pity, really,

Historia
There is a vast class of things that science has so far almost entirely neglected. They are central to the understanding of physical reality both at an everyday level and at the level of the most fundamental phenomena in physics, yet have traditionally been assumed to be impossible to incorporate into fundamental scientific explanations. They are facts not about what is (the actual) but about what could be (counterfactuals).

an interesting concept, diluted beyond repair
Revisado: 07-07-21
I was thrilled to listen to this book: the glowing reviews, the mention at the WSJ. And I did listen to 3/4 of it, until giving up. The mish-mash of disconnected stories just killed my interest, despite believing the topic is interesting and in the forefront of physics research.

Historia
Can there be freedom and free will in a deterministic world? Renowned philosopher Daniel Dennett emphatically answers "yes!" Using an array of provocative formulations, Dennett sets out to show how we alone among the animals have evolved minds that give us free will and morality. Weaving a richly detailed narrative, Dennett explains in a series of strikingly original arguments - drawing upon evolutionary biology, cognitive neuroscience, economics, and philosophy - that far from being an enemy of traditional explorations of freedom, morality, and meaning, the evolutionary perspective can be an indispensable ally.

Mish Mash of previous Dennett's books
Revisado: 10-09-20
What a disappointment from an otherwise brilliant author. I stopped 20 min in... the regurgitated content from his previous books, and the pissing contest with his peers, made it unbearable to keep listening. I guess it is true that new ideas only happen upon one very seldomly.

little depth of thought
Revisado: 05-30-19
I was excited starting this book, but after the first hour it became more evident that it is not a well-researched, or deeply thought work.

Very well written, superb performance, and yet, dissatisfying. Nothing really new. I didn’t want to finish it.

Historia
When they met at an airport, it was love at first sight. But in time, everything collapsed. As an unnamed but unforgettable woman muses on her life—from meet cute to marriage and parenthood—her recollections inexorably build to a devastating truth. In this shattering performance, Carey Mulligan, star of the critically lauded drama An Education, captivates audiences with playwright Dennis Kelly’s harrowing ruminations on family, ambition, gender, and violence.

the ending is a hack job - disconnected and rushed
Revisado: 10-11-18
The performance is superb; the beginning and main parts of the work are well worth to listen, with an earnest sense of humor. The ending... what a hack job. Literally. It felt as if the author had a negative balance on his bank account and had to come up with a finished product in an afternoon.

disappointment, served from a beloved author
Revisado: 01-16-18
Would you try another book from David Sedaris and/or David Sedaris?
I am a fan of Sedaris. This book simply does not do credit to his previous work. It seems to be the result of ultimate laziness - publishing poorly redacted one-liner memoirs, with day-by-day entries from 3 decades.
What could David Sedaris have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Actually write a book from scratch, rather than scratch memories together in a zip lock bag.
What didn’t you like about David Sedaris’s performance?
I stopped when he started making nonsense noises, from an entry in north carolina in 1977.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Nope - if you are Sedaris fan, avoid the disappointment.
