I enjoyed the story and the writing. Following the protagonist along her journey felt real and believable. The author did a marvelous job with character development and moving the plot along. The characters were all multi dimensional and believable… some relatable.

I was looking for inspiration and tangible tips but it just rambled on and on about the author’s life in unnecessary detail.

It’s a refreshing, eye-opening, jaw-dropping, informative, and empowering read. Sheena dives deep into our cultural roots and calls out how we’ve failed women, particularly Asian women, in our expectation and ideologies of them. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a man, woman, Asian or other, everyone can relate to at least one of the topics discussed in this book. At the end of the read, my confidence boosted and I was ready to say, “Watch out world, because change is coming!”

Lots of twists and turns with this story and it’s fun to go along this journey with Jack Kendall as he works on improving his life from his health to his marriage and sense of purpose.

I met Bill Taylor in Corona, CA in October 2021 when we did an author panel together on books of the Vietnam War era. We exchanged books and after reading his book, On Full Automatic: Surviving 13 Months in Vietnam, I was left speechless. Written with so much rawness, heart, and detail, I felt like I was there with him and the Marines who served. I cried and I chuckled as Bill painted a picture of what was learned and lost on the battlefields. I’m grateful for his service and happy he came back home safely. A true honor to have met this incredibly warm and talented writer, veteran, and human being.

Please get his book! You’ll learn so much from a veteran’s perspective and experiences in Vietnam!

Thank you Robin Hoklotubbe and Friends of the Corona Public Library!

So moving and educational! I listened to this as part of my research and inspiration for writing my book THE COPPER PHOENIX, a women’s fiction novel based on a true story of surviving childhood abuse and breaking the cycle of dysfunction. The epilogue pulled this all together and made me cry.

This book took me on a roller coaster ride throughout India. At times I was angry, other times frustrated. Sometimes I was sad and other times relieved. In the end, I cried. Isn’t that what a good book is supposed to do? Bernhardt weaves a complicated tale about the underbelly of sex trafficking and human slaves. Her storytelling has you holding your breath for what’s next. All the meanwhile you root for justice and pour your heart and hope for the characters.
