Historia
It is the story of 11-year-old Pecola Breedlove--a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others--who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

This is a great book & an important story. There is a great deal of abuse that makes it a hard read.

Great, Well-documented Story
Revisado: 08-03-24
Ms. Neumann does a great job of presenting many details into a coherent & tragic story. Most of it is wonderfully written, but there are parts that are over-written.
I love mechanical clocks, so that was an unexpected treat.

Excellent Account of Polish Women in the Holocaust
Revisado: 07-09-24
The only Holocaust survivors I knew growing up was a Polish couple at church on the Southside of Chicago. My parents were very close to them. Dad kept explaining that most people leave out many of the people Hitler had tried to eradicate from the earth.
This book brought their trauma to life for me. This story takes these women far into their adulthood and lives after WW2 & their days behind the Iron Curtain.

This is a short book with lots of information. Defining all the terms gets very cumbersome in the beginning, so I would have done that part differently. I can tell by the questions I get, people just give up.

Philippa Langley reveals the findings of a remarkable new research initiative: ‘The Missing Princes Project'. In the summer of 1483, Edward V (aged 12) and his brother Richard Duke of York (aged 9), disappeared from the Tower of London. For over 500 years, history has judged that they were murdered on the orders of their uncle Richard III. Following years of intensive research in UK, American and European archives, astonishing new archival discoveries have been uncovered that change what we know about the fate of the Princes in the Tower.

Intriguing Theory
Revisado: 04-29-24
I'm pretty new to this story, so I found it very difficult to follow as a listener. I need to read footnotes & look up characters I do not know.
There were also many missed edits which only added to my confusion. I got through it, but I'm not convinced or very satisfied.

Historia
Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

Fascinating
Revisado: 04-03-24
I enjoy Phillip Yancey. His family story & his faith journey are fascinating. That being said, I didn't really understand why some of his childhood was included. Did his pets qualify as light? Did his love for science show him about God or something else?
