Historia
Life for widowed Grace Wingate Jenkins has been simple enough these past few years on Amelia Island, running a bookstore and raising a painfully shy toddler girl. But when that simple life is turned upside down, Grace realizes she’s also been given a gift in the form of a friend who has an entirely different perspective. Will that be enough as she navigates the next chapter as a single mother and bookstore owner?

A nice continuation of the series
Revisado: 04-06-25
This book lacks some of the conflict and intrigue of the prior stories in the series, but it’s a nice continuation of the familiar characters. For some reason, the narration of the men’s voices in this book really bothered me, especially Isaiah. Overall, a nice casual listen.

An enjoyable listen and sweet story
Revisado: 03-31-25
I picked up the first book in this series when I was on a beach vacation and looking for a relaxing listen. It started a little slow as each character was introduced, but by the end of the book I was ready to pick up the second one in the series and had to come to enjoy the various sisters and family connections. There’s just enough mystery, drama, and romance to keep it all interesting. It’s a very lovable family. Good narration, too.

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Greek to Me is a charming account of Norris’s lifelong love affair with words and her solo adventures in the land of olive trees and ouzo. Along the way, Norris explains how the alphabet originated in Greece, makes the case for Athena as a feminist icon, seeks the fabled Baths of Aphrodite, and reveals the surprising ways Greek helped form English. Filled with Norris’s memorable encounters with Greek words, Greek gods, Greek wine - and more than a few Greek men - Greek to Me is the Comma Queen’s fresh take on Greece and its exotic yet strangely familiar language.

Helped to know it was based on a biography
Revisado: 01-22-23
I had a writing teacher who encouraged us to show not tell. This book felt like a lot of telling. It made it harder to connect with the characters and their emotions than in other historical novels I’ve read. It was very matter-of-fact. In the epilogue the author explained that the book was based on a memoir of an actual woman. This helped me be more forgiving of the narrative style. This woman lived a pretty remarkable life! I learned about history and places I hadn’t known before.

Has this author met a 5 year old?
Revisado: 01-11-23
Neither the writing nor the performance rendered these children in a way that was believable. It was very distracting and made the story hard to complete. None of the characters were compelling, in my view.

Historia
In 1978, in the tailwind of the golden age of air travel, flight attendants were the epitome of glamor and sophistication. Fresh out of college and hungry to experience the world―and maybe, one day, write about it―Ann Hood joined their ranks. After a grueling job search, Hood survived TWA’s rigorous Breech Training Academy and learned to evacuate seven kinds of aircraft, deliver a baby, mix proper cocktails, administer oxygen, and stay calm no matter what the situation.

Surprisingly delightful
Revisado: 09-23-22
I expected more crazy stories or something giddy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the telling of the real life experiences of a flight attendant. Ann Hood has a gift for writing and reading. Her training, work and travel are fascinating. She weaves in history and economics and equal rights in an honest and interesting way without making a soapbox out of any of it. I really enjoyed this book.

A perfect book.
Revisado: 06-11-22
This a story is a work of art. It’s easy to connect with the characters, the storyline moves along well, the elements of mystery are kept appropriately tucked away without the obvious hints some authors are prone to, and the descriptions and detail feel very natural and not forced. I felt like the author trusted me to figure things out rather than explaining them blatantly. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.
