Historia
The walls have fallen, the gates are breached, and the defenders are slain. It is the end and the death. After seven brutal years of civil war, the Warmaster stands on the verge of victory. Horus Lupercal, once beloved son, has come to murder his father. The Emperor, a shining beacon of hope to many, an unscrupulous tyrant to others, must die. The lives of uncountable numbers have been extinguished and even primarchs, once thought immortal, have been laid low. The Emperor's dream lies in tatters, but there remains a sliver of hope.

Breath taking
Revisado: 03-09-23
Wow, I was already hyped from previous book, but this one got even better. Presence of so many familiar characters is giving so much depth and I can only wonder of Dan Abnets genius to maintain so many story lines, slowly converging to the final destination. I am amazed and could not stop listening to it. Now it will be quite a torture to wait for the last instalnment, for the last book. Wow, hats down.
And narrator did a great job as always, he just gives so much more depth to an already ocean wide and deep story.

The Warmaster’s horde advances through the fire and ash of Terra's dying breaths, forcing the loyalists back to the Delphic Battlement—the very walls of the Sanctum Imperialis. Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters and Herald of Horus, has achieved immortality through annihilation—now he leads the armies of the damned in a wrathful tide, destroying all before them as the warp begins its poisonous corruption of Terra's very soil.

Very pleasant surprise
Revisado: 03-04-23
I will be honest. I was quite sceptical towards ADB, becase of his supposed bias against loyalist, while excellent chaos side writer. So I worried how will he handle such crucial part of the siege of Terra (and I am loyalist fan). But I can honestly and very happily proclaim, that he has just knocked it out of the park (or how the saying goes), it was excellent and I was intrigued from the beginning and for me, ending was quite breat taking, tense and glorious. Hats down to the writer, but also to the narrator. He did an amazing job and it has superbly enhanced the experience. Thank you very much! Now I am super excited and even more curious about two last books :)

What a pleasant surprise
Revisado: 09-23-22
I have not read much Star Wars books yet, because I am quite picky with books containing enough of “food for thoughts” and also original Thrawn trilogy has set high standarts, also I have never been much into Sith and the Dark side (more like Jedi and the Light side idealist), but I have to say, that I was blown out. I half expected much more of “fan service” when trying to tie this book to prequel movies, but maaaan, was I corrected in the most pleasant way. Naboo, Tatooine and other things related to the movies were so nicely flashed out and given so much back stories and I have finally understood why so many things were happening as they were (for example blockade from the beginning of Ep. 1), but all other, “hidden” aspects of the world, manipulations, machinations and other things, so well though out and written, I am so happy to listen to this! I can finally understand why Jedi order has really been actually stuck and stagnating and needed to refresh - though very tragic and cruel, it gave chance to Luke to find a new way for the Jedi order and I have never thought I will root for the Sith lord :D I really love this book and also narrator did amazing job!
I was actually not bing-listening to this one, because I was enjoying it so much, that I was dreading getting closer to the end of it, so I was listening by smaller bits to extend time for which I can look forward to another listening session :)
Great book, great port to audiobook, thank you!

This was amazing - both story, narration and sound effects. I am really sad, that this was not picked as a story for new Star Wars trilogy, with good director and modern technology, this would be a master piece of a movie. Thanks for this one!

Traitors cheating
Revisado: 09-03-21
I generally really enjoy and like the series in its entirety, but I have to admit, that I am getting annoyed by the thought, that if traitors would not use all their “warp cheats” almost all the time, they would not stand the chance. Problem? Warp solves it. Tight corner? Some witchery at hand. Too tough defenses ? Demons and more witchery! Sigh… well, at least it gives a chance to loyalists to show what is in them.

Historia
A galaxy burns and brother turns on brother as the conflict brought about by a beloved son’s betrayal reaches its fateful end. The Warmaster Horus has triumphed. His massive fleet at last nears Terra and the patriarchal Throne of his hated father. Many have fallen to bring this moment about; their tales are the ashes upon which the Heresy was born and prospered. Others have played their own small parts, drops in an ocean of war and blood. None of it matters. Terra looks to the skies as it raises its defences. Armies muster, heroes raise their swords, citizens cower. The war is coming. And nothing can stop it.

I usually dislike such compilations of short stories, but I have to admit, that I really enjoyed this one. It nicely closed some gaps and while some were weaker then others, generally very nice compilation with lot of substanance in it.

Not perfect, but good enough
Revisado: 06-25-21
I usually don´t write reviews, but I have to share my thoughts on this one.
First - overall story is nice, I liked it. But I have really rooted for the "good guys" and was sad to see so many desperate moments ruining their day and I really wished the "bad guys" just die, how can they survive so much. Even when I know, that Horus will survive, I wished so much many times that he just dies... partly because it felt almost like "cheating" the way how they overcame obstacles... strange magic here, huge ton of luck there, coincidence over there, it happened so many times, that I just felt like "aaaagh, die already!". Especially when Imperator titen fell, that felt quite cheap the way it happened and why... but well, I guess that is the point of "Choass" and their ways...
And second - the narator did really good job, but I just wish they have used the same narrator as for the first three Horus Heresy books, specifialy because of Garviel Locan character - he so much deserved the rough, tough voice he had in the first three book and he deserved it so much more with what he had to face in this book, it was very strange to hear him speak in "school-boy" like soft voice, the comparison of that voice difference was quite breaking the immertion for me many times.
But overall, I have enjoyed the book :)

Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

It has it all
Revisado: 05-13-21
This is one of best books I have read (heard), it has everything. Though I love first three HH books, it is more like epic story of ancient times with just a little of merry moments (mainly by Tarik), but this book - great plot, story, tension, drama, humor (I have chuckled several times heartily), great climax, it kept me interesting the whole time I was listening, curious what comes next. The author is quite a genius (because there was also lot of complex ideas and thoughts) and performance of the narator also superb. Big thanks for this masterpiece :)
