Historia
With poignant insight and humor, Frank Vertosick, Jr., MD, describes some of the greatest challenges of his career, including a six-week-old infant with a tumor in her brain, a young man struck down in his prime by paraplegia, and a minister with a .22-caliber bullet lodged in his skull. Told through intimate portraits of Vertosick's patients and unsparing-yet-fascinatingly detailed descriptions of surgical procedures, When the Air Hits Your Brain illuminates both the mysteries of the mind and the realities of the operating room.

Moderately entertaining, compelling enough that I finished it but his accent made it difficult to maintain my suspension of disbelief that and the thin plot.

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

Historia
In 1960, Ishmael Reed, then an aspiring young writer, interviewed Malcolm X for a local radio station in Buffalo, and the encounter cost Reed his job and changed his life. In Malcolm and Me, Reed, the author of such classic novels as Mumbo Jumbo and the winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, reveals a side of Malcolm X the public has never seen before, and explores how the civil rights firebrand influenced his own views on working and living and speaking out, and left a mark on generations of artists and activists.

If only wisdom ruled
Revisado: 01-01-22
The book is thoroughly readable, fascinating, intelligent and accessible without feeling I was talked down to. I don’t agree with all his opinions, the death penalty is not acceptable unless the system is perfect which it can never be, is good for my intellect to get ideas outside my bubble but the vast majority of his ideas for reforming our jurisprudence system are desperately needed. Why must it be so hard to do the right thing.

If we are in decline what were we in in 1933?
Revisado: 10-04-21
American decline is not western civilization. Europeans are doing just fine thank you. Americans are so insular they don’t understand that they are not the world, there are many more countries out there and because of our arrogant often criminal behavior changed world opinion from love and admiration in 1945 to hatred and ridicule, good work Americans.

Violence porno
Revisado: 08-09-21
In the first 20 minutes a team of amoral psychopaths gleefully slice the throats of two presumably brown men and in less than 5 minutes they execute 30 more. The readers then have consciences soothed by explaining that these men were guarding a criminal lab that manufactured “synthetic cocaine”, whatever that is, that American college students are getting addicted to. I was unaware of cocaine making a comeback in universities. So our country and many of it’s citizens think the USA has the right to go to any country kill it’s citizens to interdict a fantasy drug for fantasy students. Yeah right.
Prohibition has always been a winner, a lot of wealthy people on both sides of the equation are getting filthy rich with prohibition. If American business was not making money off of drug prohibition it would go away. Poor people trying to survive in South America by guarding a lab deserve an extra-judicial death penalty. After all they’re only South Americans.

I enjoy listening to Michael Caine say just about anything. The drug gestapo love to inflate the numbers, makes them think they are doing something heroic but $40,000 a kilo in 1975 is BS.
